The Boyz's Sunwoo Faces Controversy, Agency Issues Apology

Sunwoo, a member of the K-pop group The Boyz, has found himself at the center of a controversy regarding his character, prompting his agency to issue a formal apology. The agency has also stated that they will take legal action against malicious comments directed at him.

The controversy began when a video surfaced online showing Sunwoo dropping his earphones while on the move and receiving them from a security guard instead of picking them up himself. In the clip, Sunwoo can be heard exclaiming, "My earphones," as he enters an elevator, and when the guard quickly retrieves the earphones and hands them over, Sunwoo accepts them with one hand, leading to public criticism.

While the short video does not provide the full context of the situation, many online users criticized Sunwoo's behavior as disrespectful. The situation escalated when Nana, a former member of After School, commented, "He should be scolded," further fueling the backlash.

In response to the growing controversy, Sunwoo expressed his frustration on an official fan communication platform on April 13, stating, "I would never shout at the security guard to pick up my AirPods in front of fans. I’m really baffled by this situation."

Following Sunwoo's remarks, his agency, 1theK (원헌드레드), released an official statement acknowledging their failure to manage the situation properly and apologizing for it. They recognized that Sunwoo's actions could lead to character-related issues and mentioned that he was reflecting on the matter after discussions with the agency.

The agency expressed regret that the situation had developed in a way that diverged from their intentions for both the artist and the company to reflect and learn from the incident. They emphasized that the controversy was entirely their oversight and that Sunwoo was also reflecting on aspects he had not previously recognized.

While they conveyed their apologies, the agency firmly stated that they would not tolerate the baseless malicious comments targeting Sunwoo, announcing plans for strong legal action to protect the artist.

With Sunwoo's direct expression of his feelings and the agency's apology and commitment to legal action, many are watching to see if public opinion will shift in a more positive direction.
