The Boyz's Ju Haknyeon Faces Controversy Amid Personal Scandal

The controversy surrounding Ju Haknyeon, a former member of The Boyz, has escalated beyond a simple issue, leading to an official apology from the agency, termination of brand contracts, and unfollowing actions from fellow members. The situation has intensified with the initiation of a police investigation, raising alarms for both the group and the agency regarding risk management.

The turmoil began on June 16, when Ju Haknyeon announced a temporary hiatus from activities due to 'personal reasons.' However, just two days later, photos surfaced showing him in a private drinking session with former AV actress Asuka Kirara in Japan, which rapidly deteriorated public opinion. Following allegations of prostitution, Ju Haknyeon denied the claims, asserting that "no illegal activities occurred" in a handwritten statement, but trust within the fandom and industry had already begun to fracture.

Subsequently, a scheduled exhibition with the global character brand 'Esther Bunny' was abruptly canceled. The organizers cited "unforeseen external circumstances" as the reason for the decision, which was interpreted as a significant brand withdrawal. Additionally, fans noticed that Ju Haknyeon's account was unfollowed by The Boyz's official social media and several members, suggesting an internal distancing from him.

As the situation worsened, One Hundred's CEO, Cha Ga-won, issued an unusual official apology on the night of June 18. He acknowledged the agency's shortcomings in managing the personal lives and attitudes of its artists and expressed deep apologies to fans and the public. He also promised to strengthen ethical awareness and improve internal systems.

Meanwhile, the police have launched an investigation following a report submitted by a netizen to the National Petition Office. The case has been assigned to the Youth Investigation Team 4 at the Gangnam Police Station in Seoul. The complainant argued that a thorough investigation was necessary due to inappropriate personal conduct and indications of prostitution that were unbecoming of an idol. In response, Ju Haknyeon reiterated on social media that "there was no prostitution, and the illegal activities mentioned in the articles are not true," claiming that the agency fabricated reasons for contract termination and hinting at legal action.

However, One Hundred has maintained a firm stance. The agency emphasized that Ju Haknyeon's actions have had a significant impact on the entire team, justifying the termination of his contract under Article 6, Section 3, which addresses 'conduct damaging to dignity.' They warned that they would utilize all legal means if false claims continued. Furthermore, the agency stated that The Boyz's activities would proceed as planned without Ju Haknyeon, committing to protect the honor and rights of the remaining members.

This controversy has evolved into a serious matter that could affect the reputation and future activities of the entire group, rather than just a personal misstep by a member. The Boyz appears to be attempting to restore their image by distancing themselves from Ju Haknyeon, but confusion and concern within the fandom are likely to persist for the time being.
