The key issue in the case was whether A had the authority to 'control' the personal information provided by the Seoul Education Office or if he was merely 'processing' it. Under the previous Personal Information Protection Act, individuals who receive personal information are prohibited from using it for purposes other than those intended. 

In the first trial, while acknowledging A's actions were inappropriate, the court ruled that he was simply processing the information as directed by the education office, leading to a not guilty verdict. However, the second trial found A guilty of using personal information for private purposes and sentenced him to four months in prison, suspended for one year. 

The Supreme Court later overturned the second trial's decision, stating that A was merely handling the information under the education office's direction and could not be considered as having received it. The retrial upheld the not guilty verdict, and neither the prosecution nor A appealed the decision, finalizing the acquittal.

BAEKHYUN Concludes Successful U.S. Leg of First Solo World Tour

The special investigation team led by Min Jung-ki has summoned two key figures in connection with the stock manipulation allegations surrounding Kim Geon-hee, the spouse of former President Yoon Suk-yeol. On July 8, the team called in Shin Shin-woo, a former executive at Samboo Construction, and Yang Yong-ho, the president of the Eurasia Economic Association, for questioning. The investigation began at 10 AM, with Shin being treated as a suspect and Yang as a witness. 

Shin served as the CEO of Samboo Construction from September last year until early this year. The Eurasia Economic Association is linked to the 'Ukraine Global Reconstruction Forum,' which is believed to be a significant factor in the surge of Samboo Construction's stock price. Yang chaired the forum and attended the event, which has now led to his involvement in the investigation. 

The allegations suggest that between May and June 2023, Samboo Construction entered into memorandums of understanding (MOUs) with Ukrainian construction firms, despite having no intention to participate in the reconstruction efforts, artificially inflating their stock price and allowing executives to gain hundreds of millions of won in illicit profits. The stock price, which was around 1,000 won in May 2023, skyrocketed to as high as 5,500 won by July of the same year. 

The special investigation team plans to thoroughly examine the circumstances surrounding the forum and the process of Samboo Construction's alleged involvement in the Ukrainian reconstruction project. They will also focus on the relationships with former Minister of Land, Infrastructure and Transport Won Hee-ryong and Lee Jong-ho, the former CEO of Black Pearl Investment. Won attended the forum with Samboo Construction representatives, while Lee, who managed Kim Geon-hee's accounts, is suspected of involvement in the stock manipulation scheme, having sent a message about checking the stock the day before its price surged. 

On July 7, the investigation team also questioned a former executive of the Eurasia Economic Association, Han, regarding his knowledge of Lee and any prior awareness of the stock manipulation. Earlier, on July 3, the team conducted searches at 13 locations, including six corporate entities such as Samboo Construction and DYD, as well as the residences of former and current executives, including Jo Nam-wook, the former chairman of Samboo Construction. On July 4, they interrogated Lee Eung-geun, the former CEO of Samboo Construction, for approximately ten hours.

특별 수사팀은 포럼과 삼부토건의 우크라이나 재건 프로젝트 연루 과정에 대한 정황을 철저히 조사할 계획이다. 또한, 전 국토교통부 장관 원희룡과 블랙펄투자사의 전 CEO 이종호와의 관계에도 주목할 것이다. 원은 삼부토건 대표들과 함께 포럼에 참석했으며, 김건희의 계좌를 관리했던 이가 주식 조작 계획에 연루된 것으로 의심받고 있다. 그는 주가가 급등하기 전날 주식을 확인하라는 메시지를 보냈다.

7월 7일, 수사팀은 유라시아경제협회의 전 임원 한에 대해 이와 관련된 지식과 주식 조작에 대한 사전 인지 여부를 조사했다. 앞서 7월 3일, 수사팀은 삼부토건과 DYD 등 6개 기업체를 포함한 13곳에서 압수수색을 진행했으며, 삼부토건의 전 회장 조남욱을 포함한 전·현직 임원들의 거주지도 수색했다. 7월 4일에는 삼부토건의 전 CEO 이응근을 약 10시간 동안 심문했다.

Investigation into Kim Geon-hee's Allegations Intensifies with New Summons

A recent report from the National Pension Service (국민연금공단) has revealed that a significant portion of the MZ generation (born from the early 1980s to the early 2000s) is expressing deep skepticism regarding the national pension system. The report, titled 'Keyword Analysis on Public Perception of the National Pension,' indicates a dramatic increase in discussions about the pension system within online communities frequented by this demographic. 

The analysis, which examined posts from university student forums such as SnooLife (스누라이프), Gopas (고파스), and Seodam (서담), as well as general open communities like DC Inside (디시인사이드) and Nate Pann (네이트판), covered two periods: July 2017 to June 2019 and July 2022 to June 2024. 

Findings showed that the number of posts related to the national pension in university communities surged from 117 to 996, an increase of 8.5 times, while open communities saw a rise from 143 to 613 posts, approximately 4.3 times. 

In university forums, keywords such as 'abolition,' 'emigration,' 'exhaustion,' 'Ponzi scheme,' and 'withdrawal' were frequently mentioned, indicating significant anxiety and concern about the pension system. Conversely, open communities highlighted terms like 'savings,' 'citizen,' 'pension reform,' 'refund,' 'generation,' and 'birth rate,' reflecting a shared worry about the depletion of pension funds and a strong interest in reform. 

In March, a pension reform proposal was passed, raising the contribution rate to 13% and the income replacement rate to 43%, marking the first reform in 18 years. However, this proposal has faced backlash, particularly from the MZ generation, who had already harbored distrust towards the national pension system, as confirmed by the report. 

The researchers noted that while the report is based on data from specific sites and may not represent the views of the entire MZ generation, it could be complemented by future in-depth interviews targeting this demographic.

결과에 따르면, 대학 커뮤니티에서 국민연금 관련 게시물 수가 117개에서 996개로 증가하여 8.5배 증가하였고, 오픈 커뮤니티에서는 143개에서 613개로 약 4.3배 증가하였다.

대학 포럼에서는 '폐지', '이민', '고갈', '폰지 사기', '탈퇴'와 같은 키워드가 자주 언급되어 국민연금 제도에 대한 심각한 불안과 우려를 나타내고 있다. 반면, 오픈 커뮤니티에서는 '저축', '시민', '연금 개혁', '환급', '세대', '출생률'과 같은 용어가 강조되어 연금 자금의 고갈에 대한 공동의 걱정과 개혁에 대한 강한 관심을 반영하고 있다.

3월에는 기여율을 13%로, 소득 대체율을 43%로 높이는 연금 개혁안이 통과되어 18년 만에 첫 번째 개혁이 이루어졌다. 그러나 이 제안은 이미 국민연금 제도에 대한 불신을 가지고 있던 MZ 세대의 반발에 직면하고 있다. 

연구자들은 이 보고서가 특정 사이트의 데이터를 기반으로 하며 전체 MZ 세대의 의견을 대표하지 않을 수 있지만, 이 인구 집단을 대상으로 한 향후 심층 인터뷰로 보완될 수 있다고 언급하였다.

MZ Generation Expresses Distrust in National Pension System Amid Reform Discussions

Actress Lee Si-young (이시영), 43, who announced her divorce in March, has revealed that she is currently pregnant with her ex-husband's child. "I had to make a decision before the disposal date, and although my ex-husband did not agree, I chose to proceed with the implantation, taking full responsibility for my decision," she said. 

She expressed her longing for a child and her inability to discard the embryos that were nearing their expiration. "I believe that despite the potential challenges ahead, my choice is the right one," she added. 

Reflecting on her life, Lee stated, "The most precious thing in my life has always been my child. I am grateful for this new life and am experiencing a sense of peace and happiness like never before. I will live my life with deep responsibility to ensure my child lacks nothing, even as a single parent." 

Lee Si-young gained fame through her roles in the KBS2 drama Boys Over Flowers (꽃보다 남자) and MBC's We Got Married (우리 결혼했어요). She married a businessman in the food industry in 2017 and has one son. Her agency, Ace Factory, confirmed on March 17 that the couple is amicably proceeding with their divorce, which Lee filed for earlier this year at the Seoul Family Court.
