Taiwanese Actress Shih Wei's Mother Shares Heartfelt Message After Her Passing

On February 2, Taiwanese actress 서희원 (Shih Wei) tragically passed away from pneumonia caused by the flu while traveling in Japan. She was 48 years old. Reports indicate that 서희원 had traveled to Japan with her family on January 29, but exhibited cold and asthma symptoms on the day of departure. After being admitted to the emergency room, she succumbed to her illness in a Tokyo hospital.
Due to the family's current presence in Japan, part of 서희원’s funeral will be held there, with her remains to be cremated and later transported back to Taiwan.
A close friend of the family released a statement on behalf of 서희원’s mother, expressing gratitude for the concern shown by the public. She stated, "We are all deeply saddened by 희원’s passing. I apologize for not being able to take calls or explain the situation in detail. I hope for your understanding."
Furthermore, 서희원’s mother mentioned that they must navigate several complex procedures in Japan before returning to Taiwan, requesting that the media grant them more time during this difficult period.
She added, "희원 was particularly worried about media coverage. For safety reasons, we ask that no one take photos or follow us at the airport or on the streets when we return to Taiwan. This is something 희원 wished for throughout her life, and I hope you can understand."
In 2022, 서희원 and her husband 구준엽 (Koo Jun-yeop) made headlines with their surprise marriage announcement. The couple had previously dated 20 years ago, separated, and later reunited after 서희원’s divorce to tie the knot again.
