Taiwanese Actor Wang Dalu Arrested for Military Service Evasion

Wang Dalu (왕대륙), the Taiwanese actor known for his role in the film 'Our Times' (나의 소녀시대), has been arrested on charges of military service evasion. On February 18, 2025, local media outlets, including ETtoday, reported that Wang is under investigation for allegedly obtaining a false medical certificate through a doctor to avoid mandatory military service. The New Taipei District Prosecutors Office has identified Wang as a suspect in a broader investigation involving over ten individuals connected to the case.

Authorities conducted a search of Wang's residence in the Da'an District of Taipei, where they collected evidence related to the military evasion allegations. Reports indicate that Wang remained largely silent during the approximately one-hour interrogation that followed the search. After the search concluded, he was summoned for further questioning by the prosecutors.

Taiwan, like South Korea, has a conscription system, requiring males to serve for one year. Under the revised military service law enacted in 2022, individuals who submit false documents or conceal facts to evade conscription can face up to five years in prison.

Wang Dalu gained significant popularity not only in the Chinese-speaking world but also in South Korea through films like 'Our Times' and 'It Started with a Kiss' (장난스런 키스). In 2019, he was rumored to be dating South Korean actress Kang Han-na (강한나), but both parties denied the claims.
