Suspect Arrested for Stalking and Murder in Daegu

A 48-year-old man, identified as A, was apprehended on the night of June 14, just four days after allegedly murdering a woman he had been stalking in Daegu. The Daegu Seongseo Police Station reported that A was captured in Jochiwon-eup, Sejong City, without resistance while near a friend's storage facility. Authorities plan to investigate the details surrounding the incident further.
A is accused of fatally stabbing a woman in her 50s, referred to as B, at her apartment in the Dalseo District around 3:30 AM on June 10. Investigations revealed that A gained entry to B's sixth-floor residence by climbing the gas pipes on the building's exterior.
Following the crime, A fled to the mountains in the Bukhang-myeon area of Sejong City and the Gangnae-myeon area of Cheongju City. Police utilized search dogs and drones in their pursuit. A note believed to have been written by A was discovered near a local reservoir, suggesting thoughts of self-harm. It is suspected that A used a motorcycle without a license plate to navigate the Sejong area during his escape.
Earlier in April, A had been arrested for threatening B with a weapon, but a court denied the request for his detention, allowing him to remain free while under investigation. Despite police protection for B, the measures were insufficient to prevent the tragedy. The court had justified its decision by stating that A was cooperating with the investigation.
This incident has sparked calls for stronger measures against stalking crimes. The police intend to transport A to the Seongseo Police Station to conduct a thorough investigation into the circumstances of the case. A police official stated that they would seek an arrest warrant for A on murder charges.
