Suga of BTS Returns from Military Service and Issues Apology

Suga (슈가), the last member of BTS (방탄소년단) to return from military service, made headlines by posting an apology shortly after his discharge on June 21, 2025. In his first activity post-service, he expressed his heartfelt gratitude and remorse to fans and fellow members in a community message.
"Today marks my return, and I’m excited to greet you all after such a long time. I’ve been looking forward to this day and was unsure how to properly say hello. First and foremost, I want to sincerely thank all the fans who have waited for me. I truly missed you," he began.
Reflecting on his two-year hiatus, Suga shared, "I took this time to think about myself. I felt the need to step back from the work I’ve been doing for so long. I realized that while I was focused on moving forward, I hadn’t taken the time to reflect on myself. This period allowed me to do just that."
He also addressed the controversy surrounding his drunk driving incident from the previous year. While serving as a social service worker since September 2024, Suga was involved in an accident on June 6, 2025, after drinking and riding his electric scooter. Initially, he stated that he was unaware of the legal implications of riding while intoxicated, but CCTV footage later revealed that he was riding an electric scooter, not a kickboard as he had claimed. This led to speculation about whether he had attempted to downplay the incident. His agency, Big Hit Music, later apologized for the confusion caused by their initial statement, clarifying that they had misidentified the vehicle involved.
Suga candidly admitted to feeling heavy-hearted about the past year’s events. "I apologize for causing disappointment and concern. It pains me to know that I hurt the feelings of my fans. I also feel sorry for the members who may have felt burdened because of me. I will strive to repay the love you have given me moving forward," he reiterated.
In his full message, Suga expressed his gratitude to fans and promised to keep them updated in the future.
"Hello everyone, it’s Suga. It’s been about two years. How have you all been? I’m finally back and I’ve missed you so much. Thank you for waiting for me. I will work hard to repay your love. I love you all, and I’ll keep in touch!"
