Successful Launch of the 2025 Yeosu Jazz Festival on Jangdo Island

Jangdo Island, known as the 'Island of Art,' is home to Yeosu's only artificial beach and camping site, along with the marina that supports recreational vessels. Located in the Wungcheon district of Yeosu, Jeollanam-do, this area boasts a stunning skyline with skyscrapers, a rarity for a small city. The city of Yeosu announced on June 15 that it has organized a variety of cultural and marine sports events in Wungcheon district to kick off the summer vacation season.
From June 13 to September 7, Yeosu will offer free 'Marine Leisure Sports Experience Programs' at Wungcheon Beach and other locations. Participants can try out eight different activities, including windsurfing, kayaking, canoeing, scuba diving, snorkeling, water biking, dinghy sailing, and cruising on yachts. The experiences will take place at three venues: Wungcheon Beach (Marine Leisure School and Scuba Diving Classroom), Soho Yacht Marina (Yeosu Yacht School), and the Yeosu World Expo site (Marine Leisure School).
Each session will begin with training from professional instructors on equipment usage, and all lessons and equipment rentals are free of charge. Facilities such as showers and lockers will be available at discounted rates for Yeosu residents.
On June 7, the 2025 Yeosu Jazz Festival took place on Jangdo Island, which is accessible by a footbridge during low tide. Im Ho-sang, the head of 'Sori Planning,' which organized the event, reported that the festival concluded successfully with over 1,000 attendees. Although the concert was free, tickets were fully booked within minutes during the pre-distribution, and there was a large crowd for on-site ticket distribution as well.
Now in its third year, the festival has established itself as a high-quality jazz event set against the backdrop of Yeosu's beautiful sea. Attendees are encouraged to bring their own mats and snacks, allowing them to enjoy the music in a relaxed atmosphere, which has been praised as a unique experience. The enchanting marine environment of Jangdo Island enhances the jazz performances.
The event kicked off with the refined sounds of the NS JAZZ band, followed by energetic performances from Richman and Groove Nice, which heated up the atmosphere. The deep musical expressions from the Maria Kim Quartet and the emotional stage of the Han Young-ae Band drew loud applause and cheers from the audience.
Yeosu Mayor Jeong Gi-myeong stated, 'We aim to develop the jazz festival into a representative cultural event for Yeosu in preparation for the 2026 Yeosu World Island Expo next September, along with various cultural and artistic programs on Jangdo Island.'
