Stars Remember the Sewol Ferry Tragedy on Its 11th Anniversary
As the 11th anniversary of the Sewol ferry disaster approaches, various stars from the entertainment industry have expressed their condolences in their own unique ways. On April 15, Kim Ki-cheon shared a heartfelt message on his social media, reflecting on the excitement the children must have felt on that fateful day, stating, "How thrilled and happy those kids must have been to go on a picnic... Flowers bloom and wither."
Lee Seung-hwan also paid tribute by posting a photo featuring a yellow ribbon, writing, "11th anniversary of the Sewol tragedy. Those of us who remember can change the world."
On April 16, Raymond Kim shared a family photo wearing yellow ribbons and bracelets, noting, "It’s already been 11 years. It’s not about taking sides; it’s simply the day we learned our daughter had come to us that very year, that very day." He continued, "The day our angel came to us was the day another's angel left. I try to remember that painful and sorrowful day. It’s exhausting to just remember, and time makes it easy to forget. Still, I will strive to remember and not forget. I will not forget."
The post received support from fellow actress Lee Ha-nee and Ahn Jung-hwan's wife, Lee Hye-won, who liked the tribute, showing their solidarity in remembrance.
The Sewol ferry disaster occurred on April 16, 2014, when the ferry sank off the coast of Jindo, Jeollanam-do, resulting in the deaths and disappearances of 304 passengers, including 250 students and 11 teachers from Danwon High School who were on a school trip.
