Starry Night: 'Ask the Stars' Climbs to Netflix's Global Top 8

The drama 'Ask the Stars' (별들에게 물어봐) has faced challenges in domestic viewership ratings but has successfully entered the Netflix Global Series (Non-English) Top 8 just two weeks after its worldwide release. Produced by tvN, with a script by Seo Suk-hyang and directed by Park Shin-woo, the series features the story of Eve (played by Gong Hyo-jin), a boss working in a zero-gravity space station, and a mysterious guest named Dinosaur (played by Lee Min-ho) who has a secret mission. The show is currently airing on tvN, Tving, and Netflix both domestically and internationally.

Despite its fresh narrative set in a space station, the domestic ratings have been underwhelming. The premiere episode, which included two bold bed scenes featuring Lee Min-ho and Gong Hyo-jin, recorded an average rating of 3.8% in the metropolitan area and peaked at 5%, while the national average was 3.3% with a high of 4.6%. The second episode showed a slight increase with an average of 3.9%, but the ratings for the third and fourth episodes dropped to 2.2% and 2.8%, respectively, remaining stagnant in the 2% range.

However, according to Netflix's global Top 10 series ranking released on January 14, 'Ask the Stars' achieved the 8th position globally from January 6 to January 12, accumulating 2.4 million views and a total watch time of 10.8 million hours during that period.

FlixPatrol, a global OTT content ranking service, reported that 'Ask the Stars' entered the Top 10 in 55 countries, including Canada, Australia, Japan, India, and Saudi Arabia, securing the 8th spot in Netflix's global TV show category.

International media have also taken notice. The U.S. review outlet The Decider praised the drama on January 6, calling it 'very watchable' due to its excellent lead actors and stunning visual effects, highlighting the realistic portrayal of floating scenes. Another American entertainment site, Screen Rant, reviewed 'Ask the Stars' on January 7, noting its strong cast, chemistry between leads, and engaging plot, indicating positive local reception. They expressed that the first two episodes showcased the potential for 'Ask the Stars' to become a great K-drama, leaving viewers eager for the next episode.

Viewer reviews on IMDb reflect a favorable reception, with comments praising the dynamic and intriguing storyline, impressive graphics, fantastic animated scenes, excellent acting, and outstanding musical accompaniment. Many noted the significant effort put into making the drama visually appealing and remarked on the realistic depiction of the space station and the performances of the cast.
