Squid Game Season 2 Dominates Netflix Viewership Worldwide

The Netflix series Squid Game Season 2 (오징어 게임2) has achieved the top spot in viewership across all countries where Netflix is available for three consecutive days. According to Flix Patrol, a site that tracks streaming statistics, Squid Game Season 2 ranked first in the Netflix TV show category as of December 30. Currently, Netflix operates in 93 countries, and the series has reached the number one position in all of them.
On December 27, the show was already leading in 92 countries, excluding New Zealand, but by the following day, it had also claimed the top spot there. It is important to note that Flix Patrol's rankings are not official; Netflix releases its own viewership rankings every Wednesday. The precise rankings and viewing hours for Squid Game Season 2 will be available on January 1.
Squid Game Season 2 is the sequel to the original Squid Game (오징어 게임), which premiered in September 2021. The new season follows Seong Gi-hun, who, after winning 456 billion won in the previous season, re-enters the deadly games to find the organizers. Lee Jung-jae reprises his role as Seong Gi-hun, joined by a star-studded cast including Lee Byung-hun, Wi Ha-jun, Gong Yoo, Park Sung-hoon, Im Si-wan, Kang Ha-neul, Park Gyu-young, Jo Yu-ri, Yang Dong-geun, Kang Ae-sim, Lee Seo-hwan, Lee David, and Kim Si-eun. The series is once again written and directed by Hwang Dong-hyuk, who helmed the first season.
The original Squid Game set a record by maintaining the number one position on Flix Patrol for 46 days, the longest in history. According to Netflix's official viewing records, the first season amassed a staggering 2.2 billion hours of viewing time within 91 days of its release, making it the most-watched series on the platform. The second most-watched is Wednesday (웬즈데이) with 1.718 billion hours.
