The Ministry of Justice has disclosed disciplinary actions against prosecutors who received alcohol-related hospitality from Kim Bong-hyun, the former chairman of Star Mobility, a key figure in the Lime Fund scandal. According to the official gazette on May 14, the ministry imposed a one-month suspension and a fine of approximately 3.49 million won on prosecutor Na Ui-yeop from the Suwon District Prosecutors' Office. Prosecutors Yoo Hyo-je and Lim Hong-seok from the Incheon District and Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Offices, respectively, received reprimands and fines of about 660,000 won each. Under the Prosecutor Disciplinary Act, penalties are categorized based on severity, with suspension considered a serious sanction.

The disciplinary measures stem from an incident on July 18, 2019, at a nightclub in Cheongdam-dong, Gangnam, where the prosecutors were allegedly entertained by Kim, facilitated by a lawyer with ties to the prosecution. The Ministry of Justice concluded that Na received hospitality valued at 1,163,767 won, while Yoo and Lim each received hospitality worth 664,767 won. Na was present at the venue from 9:30 PM to 1 AM, while Yoo and Lim stayed from 9:30 PM to 10:50 PM. These details were used to calculate the total value of the hospitality received.

The scandal first emerged when Kim revealed the details of the hospitality in an October 2020 letter from prison, claiming he entertained three prosecutors at a room salon in Cheongdam and that one of them later joined the investigation team for the Lime case.

Following this, the prosecution used the total alcohol bill of 5.36 million won paid by Kim to charge Na and others, asserting that they exchanged hospitality worth 1.14 million won each. However, other prosecutors who left the gathering early were not charged as their hospitality amounts were calculated to be below 1 million won. The Anti-Corruption Act prohibits public officials from receiving more than 1 million won in gifts from a single source at one time.

In the trial, Na was acquitted in both the first and second instances as the recognized amount of hospitality was deemed to be under 1 million won. However, in October of last year, the Supreme Court overturned this decision, stating that there was a misunderstanding regarding the legal principles of calculating the hospitality amount.

Additionally, the Ministry of Justice issued a three-month salary reduction to Go Kyung-soon, a research fellow at the Judicial Research and Training Institute, for failing to submit research results on time despite being assigned a project. Go was found to have ignored ten requests for research plans around the submission deadline. Similarly, Lee Jung-hyun, another research fellow, received a one-month suspension for similar reasons. Furthermore, a prosecutor from the Suwon District Prosecutors' Office was suspended for two months for verbally abusing and physically confronting a police officer while intoxicated in April of last year.

KATSEYE's success is rooted in HYBE's nurturing and production system, which has transformed K-pop into a global cultural phenomenon. This aligns with Chairman Bang Si-hyuk's philosophy of wanting to expand K-pop's reach and ensure its sustainability.

KATSEYE was selected through the global audition project 'Dream Academy' and underwent training based on Korean-style performance, vocal, and teamwork development. While applying the so-called 'K-pop methodology', they flexibly localized their concept and communication for the American market.

The music industry structures in the U.S. and Korea differ significantly. Korean agencies scout potential talents and systematically train them in music, dance, and stage presence to develop them into artists. In contrast, the U.S. lacks a trainee system, focusing instead on signing already established artists for marketing and distribution.

It was uncertain whether 'K-pop DNA' could be integrated into the culturally distinct American market. However, HYBE successfully transplanted its K-pop production system, the T&D Center, to the U.S., optimizing the artist development system. This led to the birth of KATSEYE, who have continued to thrive and emerged as a symbolic group demonstrating the global applicability of the K-pop system.

According to a statement from Belift Lab on May 14, ILLIT has been included in the first lineup for the festival, which will take place from September 13-15 and 20-21 at Soga Sports Park in Chiba City, Japan.

Celebrating its 26th anniversary this year, the ROCK IN JAPAN FESTIVAL is one of Japan's four major rock festivals, boasting an impressive attendance of 275,000 last year alone. The festival typically features top local artists, with previous K-pop acts like CNBLUE and ENHYPEN having graced its stage. Despite not having released an official album in Japan, ILLIT's invitation to perform at this prestigious event underscores their rapidly growing popularity in the region. The group will take the stage on September 14, promising to heat up the Japanese archipelago.

Since their debut in March of last year, ILLIT has made waves in Japan with their track 'Magnetic,' dominating various music charts and short-form platforms. Their success led to them winning the Rookie of the Year award at the 66th Japan Record Awards and achieving the most wins (three) among K-pop female artists at the 39th Japan Gold Disc Awards. They have also made appearances on prominent Japanese television programs, including the renowned NHK 'Kohaku Uta Gassen' in their debut year.

ILLIT's first original Japanese song, 'Almond Chocolate,' released in February, has also received a positive response. Created as a theme song for a local film, it has gained traction and sparked an unexpected resurgence in popularity two months post-release. 'Almond Chocolate' reached the 10th spot on the Oricon Weekly Streaming Chart (March 31 - April 6), marking the highest achievement for a K-pop girl group song released this year.

To continue their momentum, ILLIT will hold their first fan concert, '2025 ILLIT GLITTER DAY IN JAPAN,' on August 10-11 in Yokohama and September 3-4 in Osaka. Renowned artist G-DRAGON (지드래곤) is set to reunite with his Vietnamese fans for the first time in nearly 13 years at the global music concert 'K-STAR SPARK IN VIETNAM 2025' on June 21, 2025. According to his agency, Galaxy Corporation, the concert will take place at My Dinh National Stadium in Hanoi. 

'K-STAR SPARK' is a new K-POP show designed to showcase the growing global influence of K-POP, featuring unique concepts and innovative productions. The event debuted in February in Bangkok, Thailand, where it captivated local fans. 

G-DRAGON's participation in the Vietnam concert follows his performance in Bangkok, highlighting his unparalleled global popularity. His last visit to Vietnam was with BIGBANG in 2012, making this upcoming concert a highly anticipated event for fans who have eagerly awaited his return. The 40,000-seat stadium is expected to be filled with enthusiastic cheers for G-DRAGON's performance.

In addition to the Vietnam concert, G-DRAGON recently completed shows in Tokyo on May 10 and 11, and will continue his world tour, 'G-DRAGON 2025 WORLD TOUR [Übermensch]', starting from May 17 in various Asian cities including Bulacan, Osaka, Macau, Taipei, Kuala Lumpur, Jakarta, Hong Kong, and Bangkok, before heading to Sydney and Melbourne in Australia. Actress Han So-hee has revealed the cities for her upcoming world tour fan meeting. On May 14, her agency, 9ato Entertainment, shared a tour map poster on their official social media channels, officially announcing her global fan interactions for the '2025 HAN SO HEE 1st FANMEETING WORLD TOUR [Xohee Loved Ones].' 

The tour will kick off in Bangkok on July 12, followed by stops in Tokyo, Taipei, Los Angeles, New York, Hong Kong, Frankfurt, London, Paris, and Berlin, before concluding at Yonsei University in Seoul on October 26. 

Notably, the poster features the phrase 'AND MORE' at the bottom, hinting at additional cities that will be announced later, further heightening fan anticipation. 

The poster also showcases Han So-hee's silhouette with the repeated message, 'XOHEE Loved Ones, you are sparkling treasures to me,' expressing her heartfelt appreciation for her fans.

Han So-hee Announces World Tour Fan Meeting Cities

Members of the Korean University Student Progressive Union (대진연) staged a surprise protest at the Supreme Court in Seocho-gu, Seoul, on May 9, demanding the resignation of Chief Justice 조희대. Among the four members arrested for attempting to unlawfully enter the building were two sisters, 윤모씨, daughters of 황선, a former spokesperson for the Democratic Labor Party. 

The protest was in response to the Supreme Court's decision to overturn a previous ruling regarding Lee Jae-myung, the presidential candidate from the Democratic Party of Korea, for violating election laws. 대진연 is known for its pro-North Korea and anti-U.S. stance, having previously engaged in activities such as praising North Korean leader Kim Jong-un and illegally entering the U.S. Embassy in South Korea.

After their arrest, the police sought warrants for the sisters, but the Seoul Central District Court denied the requests on May 12, citing low risks of flight and evidence tampering. 

Their mother, 황선, gained notoriety in 2005 when she traveled to North Korea to attend the Arirang Festival while pregnant and gave birth in Pyongyang, sparking controversy over 'Pyongyang birth tourism.' In an interview at the time, she expressed joy that her child's birthplace was legally recognized as Pyongyang, viewing it as a symbol of improved inter-Korean relations.

황선 has continued her pro-North Korea activities, including hosting talk concerts that glorify the North Korean regime. In 2012, she ran for a parliamentary seat as a proportional representative for the Unified Progressive Party but was unsuccessful.

This is not the first time the 윤 sisters have faced legal scrutiny. The elder sister is currently undergoing trial for attempting to breach the Yongsan Presidential Office in January 2022 while demanding the resignation of former President 윤석열. The younger sister also participated in a protest in March 2022, where she and other 대진연 members stormed the headquarters of the People Power Party to call for the resignation of lawmaker 성일종.

Following the rejection of their arrest warrants, the 윤 sisters expressed their outrage through 대진연's YouTube channel, condemning Chief Justice 조희대 and labeling the Supreme Court's actions as an attack on the people's right to choose, stating, "The actions of 조희대 and the insurrectionist forces are infuriating."

5월 9일, 서울 서초구 대법원에서 한국대학생진보연합(대진연) 회원들이 조희대 대법원장의 사퇴를 요구하는 깜짝 시위를 벌였다. 불법적으로 건물에 들어가려다 체포된 네 명의 회원 중에는 민주노동당의 전 대변인인 황선의 두 딸인 윤모씨 자매가 포함되어 있다.

이번 시위는 대법원이 더불어민주당의 대선 후보인 이재명에 대한 선거법 위반과 관련된 이전 판결을 뒤집은 것에 대한 반발로 이루어졌다. 대진연은 친북 및 반미 입장으로 알려져 있으며, 과거에는 김정은 북한 지도자를 찬양하고 한국 내 미국 대사관에 불법으로 침입하는 등의 활동을 해왔다.

체포 이후 경찰은 자매에 대한 영장을 청구했으나, 서울중앙지법은 5월 12일 도주 위험과 증거 인멸 가능성이 낮다는 이유로 요청을 기각했다.

그들의 어머니인 황선은 2005년 임신 중 북한을 방문해 아리랑 축제에 참석하고 평양에서 출산하여 '평양 출산 관광' 논란을 일으킨 바 있다. 당시 인터뷰에서 그녀는 자신의 자녀의 출생지가 법적으로 평양으로 인정받은 것에 기쁨을 표하며, 이를 남북관계 개선의 상징으로 보았다.

황선은 북한 정권을 미화하는 토크 콘서트를 개최하는 등 친북 활동을 계속하고 있다. 2012년에는 통합진보당 비례대표로 국회의원 선거에 출마했으나 실패했다.

윤 자매가 법적 조사를 받은 것은 이번이 처음이 아니다. 언니는 2022년 1월 윤석열 전 대통령의 사퇴를 요구하며 용산 대통령실을 침입하려다 재판을 받고 있다. 동생도 2022년 3월 대진연 회원들과 함께 국민의힘 본부에 난입하여 성일종 의원의 사퇴를 촉구하는 시위에 참여했다.

영장 기각 이후, 윤 자매는 대진연의 유튜브 채널을 통해 분노를 표출하며 조희대 대법원장을 비난하고 대법원의 행동을 국민의 선택권에 대한 공격으로 간주하며 "조희대와 반란 세력의 행동은 분노를 일으킨다"고 말했다.
