The ongoing conflict between Min Hee-jin and HYBE, which heated up in 2024, is set to persist this year. Although the police have determined that there is 'no evidence' of wrongdoing regarding Min Hee-jin's alleged breach of duty, HYBE has announced plans to file an objection with the prosecution.

On July 15, Min Hee-jin's legal team stated, "In April of last year, HYBE filed a complaint against former CEO Min Hee-jin for breach of duty. After more than a year of police investigation, it has been concluded that there is no legal violation on her part, and today we were informed that both cases filed by HYBE have been dismissed."

Previously, in April 2024, HYBE initiated an urgent audit after suspecting that Min Hee-jin attempted to seize control of ADOR and its girl group NewJeans. Following this, they reported her for alleged breach of duty.

HYBE further stated, "The appellate court has determined that Min Hee-jin is in a position that intentionally undermines the integrated structure that is the basis of the exclusive contract, and we intend to contest the dismissal decision in the objection process."

The investigation centers around allegations that Samboo Construction artificially inflated its stock price by signing memorandums of understanding (MOUs) with Ukrainian construction firms, despite having no intention to participate in Ukraine's reconstruction projects since May 2023. 

Lee Jong-ho, who managed Kim Geon-hee's accounts, was implicated after a message he sent in a KakaoTalk group chat suggested checking on Samboo's stock. 

According to reports, the special prosecutor's team filed for arrest warrants on July 14 against four executives: Lee Il-jun (이일준), the chairman; Lee Gi-hoon (이기훈), the vice-chairman; Cho Sung-ok (조성옥), the former chairman; and Lee Eung-geun (이응근), the former CEO, citing violations of capital market laws. The warrants state that these individuals conspired to manipulate stock prices. 

The special prosecutor's team noted that Samboo Construction distributed misleading press releases, starting with one on May 22, 2023, claiming participation in a forum for Ukraine's reconstruction. However, the investigation found that the company was not specially invited and that the MOUs signed contained no relevant details about the reconstruction efforts. 

The prosecutor's team argued that the majority of the press release content was false and aimed at inflating stock prices. They provided evidence that the company had no ongoing overseas projects and was in a poor financial state, lacking the capability or intention to pursue international business. 

The investigation revealed that the four executives allegedly manipulated stock prices and profited approximately 36.9 billion KRW by selling their shares. However, the arrest warrants did not mention Kim Geon-hee or Lee Jong-ho, leading to speculation in legal circles that the main suspects may deny any connection to them, complicating the investigation into Kim Geon-hee. 

The substantive examination of the arrest warrants for the four executives is scheduled for July 17, and the special prosecutor's team plans to focus on establishing any links to Kim Geon-hee during their ongoing investigation.

On the previous day, Jeong Dong-young (정동영), the nominee for Minister of Unification, stated that North Korea is 'not an enemy but a threat,' while Ahn Gyu-baek (안규백), the nominee for Minister of National Defense, affirmed that North Korea is indeed the main enemy. Kim attempted to navigate this divide by agreeing with both nominees, stating, 'I concur with the Unification Minister nominee's opinion, but I also agree with the Defense Minister nominee regarding the North Korean military being a main enemy.' He added, 'This is not my area of expertise, so I cannot elaborate further.' 

In response, members of the ruling party, People Power Party (국민의힘), called for a recess, arguing that Kim needed to clarify his stance on North Korea. Lawmaker Kim So-hee (김소희) expressed concern that if the nominee held such views, the Ministry of Employment and Labor could become a branch of the North Korean Workers' Party in South Korea.

Controversy Erupts Over North Korea's Threat Status During Labor Minister Nominee Hearing

On July 16, 2025, the civil organization Participatory Democracy (참여연대) urged the resignation of Kang Sun-woo (강선우), the Minister of Gender Equality and Family nominee, and Lee Jin-sook (이진숙), the Minister of Education nominee, due to various controversies surrounding their appointments in the first cabinet of President Lee Jae-myung's (이재명) administration. 

In a statement, Participatory Democracy asserted that both candidates have demonstrated significant disqualifications for their ministerial roles, falling short of public expectations. 

Regarding Kang Sun-woo, the organization highlighted the 'abuse of power' allegations involving her treatment of aides, which they described as a serious disqualification stemming from her misuse of her privileged position as a member of the National Assembly. They criticized her for failing to provide responsible explanations for the allegations, instead resorting to excuses and false justifications that have eroded public trust in high-ranking officials and the government. 

Additionally, they condemned her inappropriate attempts to discredit whistleblowers by labeling them as 'malicious informants' and accused of causing severe internal conflicts and attendance issues. New allegations of obstructing employment and wage arrears concerning her aides have also emerged. 

As for Lee Jin-sook, the organization pointed to allegations of research ethics violations due to suspected plagiarism in student papers and breaches of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act related to her children's early study abroad. They argued that these issues represent critical disqualifications for someone in charge of the education sector, stating that it is contradictory for a person who undermines educational fairness and legal standards to oversee educational policies.

Civil Group Calls for Resignation of Controversial Ministerial Candidates

On July 16, 2025, MONSTA X held a press conference at the Conrad Seoul in Yeongdeungpo-gu, Seoul, to commemorate their 10th anniversary. The members expressed their disbelief at reaching this milestone, sharing heartfelt gratitude towards each other and their fans, known as Monbebe. Since their debut in 2015, MONSTA X has released numerous hit songs, including 'Trespass' (무단침입), 'Dramarama' (드라마라마), 'Shoot Out' (슛 아웃), 'Love Killa' (러브 킬라), 'Alligator' (엘리게이터), and 'Gambler' (갬블러), establishing themselves as a powerhouse in the K-pop performance genre. 

Member Hyungwon (형원) highlighted the importance of respecting each other's differences and supporting one another to maintain the group's unity over the years. I.M (아이엠) noted that the trust among members has deepened, making them feel more like family. Kihyun (기현) shared that their passion for music has kept them together for a decade, despite concerns about the future. 

MONSTA X has made significant strides in the global market, being the first K-pop group to participate in the iHeartRadio Jingle Ball tour three times since 2018, captivating hundreds of thousands of fans. Their first U.S. studio album, 'All About Love,' debuted at number five on the Billboard 200 chart, and their second English album, 'The Dreaming,' also charted for two consecutive weeks. 

The group began their military service in 2021, starting with Shownu (셔누). All members, except I.M, will complete their service by May, allowing them to reunite with fans through a solo concert. Hyungwon expressed gratitude for the members' consistent dedication during their preparations, while Shownu remarked on the deeper conversations and considerations that have developed among them over time. Jooheon (주헌) mentioned the excitement of returning to full group activities and creating fresh music for their fans. 

As I.M prepares for his enlistment, he humorously noted that he might be overwhelmed by stories from his older members about their military experiences. He also reflected on how their popularity has grown during their hiatus, attributing it to a more relaxed charm that resonates with fans. 

From July 18 to 20, MONSTA X will hold '2025 MONSTA X Connect X' at the KSPO DOME in Olympic Park, Seoul. This concert marks their first full group performance in over three years since the '2022 MONSTA X No Limit Tour in Seoul.' The members have focused on creating a setlist that reflects what Monbebe wants to see, rather than just what they want to express. Kihyun added that this concert will feature a live band for the first time, enhancing the overall experience. 

Following their Seoul concert, MONSTA X will continue 'Connect X' in Yokohama, Japan, on August 27 and 28. They are also set to make a formal comeback in September. Minhyuk (민혁) mentioned that rather than making a big deal out of their 10th anniversary, they want to work even harder moving forward. Kihyun noted that by the next decade, all members will be in their 40s, and they are excited about the new charm and depth that will come with that age. Jooheon confirmed their September comeback, focusing on the present version of MONSTA X. 

The group is committed to showing their appreciation and love for Monbebe. They have consistently donated in the name of their fans and plan to hold a free fan meeting after their military service, demonstrating their gratitude. Hyungwon expressed that waiting for someone is one of the hardest things, and he is thankful for the immense love from fans during their hiatus. On July 16, 2025, Lee Jin-sook (이진숙), the nominee for Minister of Education, addressed controversies surrounding her children's early study abroad in the U.S. and allegations of plagiarism involving her students during a confirmation hearing at the National Assembly's Education Committee in Yeouido, Seoul. When asked by People Power Party lawmaker Kim Dae-sik (김대식) if she would consider resigning for the success of the Lee Jae-myung (이재명) administration, Lee responded that while many opposed her nomination, a significant number of professors had issued statements of support.
