Special Prosecutor's Office for Kim Geon-hee Established at KT Gwanghwamun Building

On June 19, 2025, it was confirmed that the Special Prosecutor's Office investigating allegations related to Kim Geon-hee will be located in the KT Gwanghwamun Building West. Oh Jeong-hee, the special prosecutor, announced that approval from the Ministry of Economy and Finance has been obtained to use the government-owned sections of the building, specifically the 13th floor, which is part of the 12th to 14th floors designated for government use. However, as renovations are still ongoing, the team will temporarily operate from a shared office in Seocho-dong for about two weeks. The exact move-in date to Gwanghwamun has not yet been determined.

The Kim Geon-hee Special Prosecutor's team is expected to include up to 205 members, including Special Prosecutor Min Joong-ki. The need for multiple floors arises from the requirement to store case files transferred from the prosecution, police, and the Corruption Investigation Office for High-Ranking Officials (공수처). Previously, the 'Choi Soon-sil National Scandal Special Prosecutor's team' utilized three floors in a building in Daechi-dong, Gangnam, while the 2018 'Druking Comment Manipulation Special Prosecutor's team' rented five floors in a building in Seocho-dong.

On the same day, Special Prosecutor Min and four deputy prosecutors met with Kim Seok-woo, the Deputy Minister of Justice, Oh Dong-woon, the head of the Corruption Investigation Office for High-Ranking Officials, and Kim Jun-young, the Chief of the Southern Gyeonggi Police Agency. They discussed the scope of investigative personnel deployment and the transfer of case files, agreeing to continue negotiations on the specifics of personnel and case scope.
