Special Prosecutor Raids Lawyer's Home in Marine Investigation

On July 18, 2025, the special prosecutor investigating allegations of external pressure in the case of a deceased Marine conducted a search of lawyer Go Seok's (고석) home and office. According to legal sources, investigators arrived at Go's residence and workplace early in the morning. Go is reportedly a witness in the case. A former army officer and the former head of the High Military Court, Go currently serves as the chairman of the People Power Party's (국민의힘) Yongin City branch. He is also known to be a junior to former President Yoon Seok-yeol (윤석열) at Seoul National University’s law school and a fellow graduate of the Judicial Research and Training Institute.
Additionally, the special prosecutor's team is conducting searches at over ten locations, including the offices of former division commander Lim Seong-geun (임성근), who is implicated in the alleged lobbying for leniency, as well as the office of lawmaker Lee Cheol-kyu (이철규) and Far East Broadcasting (극동방송).
The lobbying allegations stem from the events following the death of Corporal Chae Soo-geun (채수근) in July 2023, during which Lim was initially included as a suspect in a case of negligent homicide but was later excluded. The special prosecutor's team stated in a briefing that they have confirmed connections between the lobbying efforts starting from Lim and his associates, extending to former President Yoon and individuals around the presidential office through various channels.
