Special Investigation Team Confirms Ongoing Inquiry into Former President Yoon's Foreign Exchange Allegations

On July 4, the Special Investigation Team announced that significant investigations have already been conducted regarding former President Yoon Suk-yeol's foreign exchange allegations, involving numerous military officials. During a press briefing, Deputy Special Prosecutor Park Ji-young stated that due to the sensitive nature of the foreign exchange allegations, details regarding attendance and testimonies are being kept confidential, but emphasized that a considerable amount of investigation has taken place.

The Special Investigation Team had previously summoned a researcher from the Aircraft Technology Research Institute of the Defense Science Research Institute on July 1, in connection with allegations surrounding the deployment of drones to Pyongyang last October. Investigations into related individuals are ongoing.

When asked if military officials are being summoned to the Seoul High Prosecutor's Office for questioning, the Deputy Prosecutor indicated that various investigative methods are being considered and that they are open to conducting inquiries outside the prosecutor's office to maintain security.

Additionally, regarding the second round of questioning for former President Yoon scheduled for July 5, the Special Investigation Team confirmed that the investigation into the obstruction of arrest will continue to be led by Superintendent Park Chang-hwan. The former president's legal team raised objections during the first round of questioning on June 28, arguing that Superintendent Park, who was in charge of police operations during the execution of an arrest warrant in January, should not be involved. However, the police clarified that Superintendent Park was not present at the scene during the first warrant execution and was not the commanding officer.

The Special Investigation Team is also investigating the former president's legal representatives for allegedly spreading false information to obstruct the investigation. Deputy Prosecutor Park mentioned that three police officers have been dispatched to gather evidence related to these obstruction allegations.
