Song Joong-ki Showcases Wife Katie's Culinary Skills on 'Please Take Care of My Refrigerator'

On the January 12 episode of JTBC's variety show 'Please Take Care of My Refrigerator' (냉장고를 부탁해), actor Song Joong-ki proudly highlighted his wife Katie's cooking talents. The episode featured a risotto competition between chef Kwon Seong-jun, the winner of 'Black and White Chef: Cooking Class War,' and original chef Sam Kim.

Now a father of two, Song Joong-ki shared insights into his daily life raising his first son and second daughter. He expressed his joy, stating, "It's been two weeks since our second daughter was born. I'm so happy. My first son and she are just a year apart. She definitely loves to be held, which is different from my son."

He also mentioned that his first son has just started speaking, saying adorable phrases like 'Good night, Dad' and 'I love you.' Interestingly, when asking to be held, his son speaks in Italian, a reflection of Katie's Italian background. "I couldn't understand him at first, so I started studying the language. Meanwhile, my wife is learning Korean," he explained. The couple communicates in English, with Katie being fluent in multiple languages including Italian, Spanish, and French.

Song Joong-ki revealed that he bathed his first child every day for 200 days, a practice he learned from his mother. He shared, "The way my baby looks at me while bathing is so heartwarming. I feel accomplished when I put him to bed after bathing him."

Currently residing in Tuscany, Italy, with his family, he explained, "I work in Korea but spend time with my family in Italy." When asked about activities he hopes to share with his children as they grow, he expressed a desire to take them to baseball games, saying, "I want to wear Hanwha Eagles uniforms together."

The episode also showcased Song Joong-ki and Katie's refrigerator, filled with ingredients that evoke an Italian atmosphere. He noted, "We eat gluten-free because my wife can't have flour. We use buckwheat pasta for the baby’s food."

Interestingly, Song Joong-ki admitted he wasn't a fan of Western cuisine before, but has grown to love Italian food thanks to Katie's cooking. He praised her culinary skills, mentioning that she also excels in Colombian cuisine and has recently taken an interest in Korean dishes. During their time in Hungary for filming, Katie would host weekly dinners for the team, showcasing her love for cooking.

He particularly emphasized their pride in their olive oil, stating, "We take pride in our olive oil. When cooking in Italy, we use oil extracted from the olive trees at our home."

Song Joong-ki married his British girlfriend Katie Louise Saunders in January 2023, welcomed their first son in June of the same year in Rome, and announced the birth of their daughter in November, receiving much congratulation from fans.
