6월 1일, 배우 이동욱은 팬 소통 플랫폼인 버블에 "나는 사전 투표 첫날에 투표했다. 본 투표 날에는 촬영이 있다. 사전 투표는 편리하다; 줄이 짧다."라고 공유했다. 그는 이어서 "나는 항상 투표는 최악을 방지하는 것이라고 말한다. 최선의 선택이 없다면 다음으로 좋은 것을 선택하고, 그것도 없다면 최악의 결과를 피하기 위해 최소한 나쁜 것을 선택하라."고 강조했다.

가수 이상순은 6월 3일 MBC 라디오 '이상순의 완벽한 하루'에 출연하여 청취자가 쉬는 날을 즐긴다는 댓글에 대해 "오늘은 쉬는 날이 아니다; 투표하는 날이다. 투표하고 나서 쉬면 된다. 투표하기 위해 일을 쉬는 날이다."라고 답했다.

같은 날, 개그맨 김신영도 MBC 라디오 '정오의 희망곡'에서 "오늘은 제21대 대통령 선거의 날이다. 투표율이 높아지기를 바란다. 18세 이상 누구나 투표할 수 있다. 투표는 총기나 칼보다 더 무섭다. 소중한 권리를 행사해라. 신분증을 가져오는 것을 잊지 마라!"라고 말했다. 그녀는 "여유가 있을 때, 코미디가 번창한다. 더 많은 코미디 콘텐츠가 생기고 비판 없이 웃을 수 있었던 시절로 돌아가기를 바란다. 모두 투표하자; 가장 큰 권리는 투표할 권리다. 주위를 둘러보고 결정을 내리자. 모두 최선을 다하자!"라고 덧붙였다.

배우 김선아는 6월 3일 투표 후 "투표는 단순히 누군가를 선택하는 것이 아니라, 누군가가 당선되는 것을 방지하기 위한 투표이다."라고 강력하고 의미 있는 메시지를 전했다.

이 외에도 임시완, 부부 도경완과 장윤정, 윤은혜, 정가은, 이민우, 박보영, 강말금, 아이유, 제이홉, 이은미, 신기루, 이채연 등 많은 스타들이 투표 참여를 독려하기 위해 투표 셀카를 게시했다.

중앙선거관리위원회에 따르면, 6월 3일 오후 8시 기준으로 44,391,871명의 등록 유권자 중 35,244,416명이 선거에 참여했다. 이 수치는 5월 29일부터 30일 사이에 기록된 34.74%의 사전 투표율과 해외, 선박, 부재자 투표를 포함한다.

이번 잠정 투표율은 1997년 제14대 대통령 선거 이후 29년 만에 가장 높은 수치로, 당시 투표율은 80.7%였다. 그러나 15대에서 18대 대통령 선거에서는 사전 투표가 실시되지 않았다는 점도 주목할 필요가 있다.

On June 4, a day before World Environment Day, children from Dongyoung Kindergarten in Daegu's Suseong District participated in an environmental campaign, holding handmade signs. This year marks the first World Environment Day ceremony in South Korea since 1997, with the theme set as 'Ending Plastic Pollution.' The event will take place on June 5 at the Jeju International Convention Center in Seogwipo, Jeju Island. 

World Environment Day, celebrated annually on June 5, commemorates the first United Nations Conference on the Human Environment held in Stockholm, Sweden, in 1972. The Ministry of Environment stated that the official slogan for this year is 'Shared Challenge, Collective Action,' emphasizing that the fight against plastic pollution requires a united effort from all humanity. 

The ceremony will see participation from around 1,300 attendees, including high-level representatives from 20 countries such as Laos, Bangladesh, and Japan, as well as ambassadors, and members from civil society, academia, and industry. 

Additionally, the Ministry plans to unveil an 'Action Plan for a Circular Economy' during the ceremony. This initiative aims to assist countries struggling with plastic pollution by leveraging South Korea's technology and experience to conduct tailored projects based on comprehensive analyses of their specific issues. 

On June 4, the '30X30 Alliance' will be launched, aiming to protect and manage 30% of the nation's land as protected areas or areas of ecological coexistence, while restoring 30% of degraded lands. This alliance includes various organizations such as the Ministry of Environment, the National Institute of Biological Resources, and private companies like Samsung Electronics and POSCO DX, along with international organizations and NGOs. 

In December 2022, countries adopted the 'Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework' at the 15th Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity in Canada, which aims to designate 30% of the planet as protected areas and restore 30% of degraded ecosystems by 2030. In line with this, South Korea plans to establish its '5th National Biodiversity Strategy' by December 2023, committing to designate 30% of its territory as protected areas or areas of ecological coexistence (OECM) by 2030.

추가로, 환경부는 기념식 중에 '순환 경제를 위한 행동 계획'을 발표할 예정이다. 이 이니셔티브는 플라스틱 오염으로 어려움을 겪고 있는 국가들을 지원하기 위해 한국의 기술과 경험을 활용하여 그들의 특정 문제에 대한 종합 분석을 바탕으로 맞춤형 프로젝트를 수행하는 것을 목표로 한다.

6월 4일에는 '30X30 연합'이 출범하여 국가의 30%를 보호 지역 또는 생태적 공존 지역으로 관리하고, 황폐화된 토지의 30%를 복원하는 것을 목표로 한다. 이 연합에는 환경부, 국립생물자원관, 삼성전자, 포스코 DX와 같은 민간 기업 및 국제 기구와 NGO들이 포함되어 있다.

2022년 12월, 각국은 캐나다에서 열린 생물 다양성 협약 제15차 당사국 총회에서 '쿤밍-몬트리올 글로벌 생물 다양성 프레임워크'를 채택하였으며, 이는 2030년까지 지구의 30%를 보호 지역으로 지정하고 황폐화된 생태계를 30% 복원하는 것을 목표로 한다. 이에 따라 한국은 2023년 12월까지 '제5차 국가 생물 다양성 전략'을 수립할 계획이며, 2030년까지 자국의 30%를 보호 지역 또는 생태적 공존 지역(OECM)으로 지정할 것을 약속하고 있다.

South Korea to Host World Environment Day Ceremony for the First Time in 28 Years

On June 4, 2025, President Lee Jae-myung attended his inauguration ceremony at the National Assembly in Yeouido, Seoul. Following the ceremony, he took the time to express his gratitude to the cleaning staff and security personnel of the Assembly. This gesture was particularly meaningful as it acknowledged the support he received from a cleaning worker during his hunger strike and the bravery of security staff who prevented military intrusion during the declaration of martial law on December 3.

After delivering his inaugural address in the Rotunda of the National Assembly, President Lee and First Lady Kim Hye-kyung moved to the first floor where the Assembly staff were present. They greeted and shook hands with the female cleaning workers waiting there, including Choi Seong-ja, who had worked in the representative office during Lee's hunger strike in 2023. The staff congratulated the President and his wife, who responded with smiles, while some cleaning workers were visibly emotional.

President Lee then visited the security personnel, emphasizing their crucial role in safeguarding democracy during turbulent times. The presidential office stated, "The security staff were on the front lines during the national crisis, preventing military forces from breaching the Assembly, while the cleaning workers helped maintain order in the people's assembly during chaos. This visit symbolizes our commitment to remembering the dedication of National Assembly workers who quietly uphold democracy in our nation."
