Song Hye-kyo Opens Up About Rumors on Talk Show After 23 Years
Actress Song Hye-kyo (송혜교), 44, made a rare appearance on a talk show after 23 years, candidly discussing the various rumors surrounding her. During her appearance on tvN's entertainment program 'You Quiz on the Block' (유 퀴즈 온 더 블록) aired on January 8, she remarked, "Having worked in the entertainment industry for so long, I was unaware of the numerous rumors circulating about me. Sometimes, when I meet people during interviews or casual encounters, they ask me about these false rumors."
She added, "When that happens, I tell them, 'I've heard those stories too. Go ask the person who started the rumor.' I've received so much criticism that I've become indifferent to it. While I can handle malicious comments directed at me, it breaks my heart when they target my family."
Reflecting on her long career, Song Hye-kyo shared, "Since I started working at a young age, I've faced many small and large rumors. Given my profession, I've often let them go in one ear and out the other."
When discussing how she coped with difficult times, she recalled a conversation with renowned screenwriter Noh Hee-kyeong (노희경), who advised her, "You must learn to love yourself first to be able to give love to those around you and to see a better world." Song Hye-kyo reflected, "I wondered how to love myself, as I didn't know how to do that."
She continued, "The writer suggested I practice morning and evening reflections. In the morning, I would write down how I planned to spend my day, and at night, I would list ten things I was grateful for. I did this for five years, and it ended last year. Once I started appreciating the little things, I realized there was so much to be thankful for."
Concluding her thoughts, she stated, "As Song Hye-kyo the woman, the human, and the actress, I've experienced both painful and joyful moments, but isn't that what life is about? Those moments were tough, but I believe they were valuable lessons for my future. Now I understand the importance of loving myself first."
