Song Hye-kyo Embraces New Promotional Strategies for Upcoming Film

On January 21, actress Song Hye-kyo shared her reasons for actively participating in promotional activities for her upcoming film during an interview at a café in Samcheong-dong, Jongno-gu, Seoul. She explained, "I didn't intentionally try to maintain an air of mystery; rather, the methods of promotion have changed significantly over the years."

Recently, Song has been engaging with the public through various entertainment programs and YouTube channels. Notably, a vlog on Kang Min-kyung's official YouTube channel, '걍민경', garnered over 3 million views within just three days, reaching the top spot on the trending videos list.

Reflecting on her return to film after a long hiatus, she noted, "The way we promote has evolved a lot in the past decade. Younger audiences likely know me from 'The Glory', so I wanted to connect with them more closely, which is why I decided to appear in YouTube content. I also contemplated joining 'You Quiz on the Block' because I wanted to show a more relaxed side to the public, which gave me the courage to participate."

When asked if she feels the audience's enthusiastic response, she admitted, "I haven't looked at comments in a while; I prefer not to for my own sake. I was worried about how people would react once the videos were released, but Kang Min-kyung captured everything beautifully in the vlog. During the shoot, I felt at ease, especially after having a glass of champagne, which made me forget about the cameras. By the end of the filming, I was a bit tipsy (laughs). After returning home, I worried about how I might have come across, but I’m grateful that she portrayed me so well."

Through these appearances, Song Hye-kyo has shed her mysterious image, revealing a more candid and approachable side. She clarified, "I didn't aim to be mysterious. In the past, that was the norm, but things have changed, and I'm adapting to the current methods. The vlog with Min-kyung is the closest representation of my true self. She filmed me solo and let me handle the camera, which resulted in a more natural portrayal."

Her upcoming film, 'The Black Nuns' (검은 수녀들), set to release on January 24, is a spin-off of the 2015 film 'The Priests' (검은 사제들). Directed by Kwon Hyuk-jae, the film tells the story of individuals who engage in forbidden rituals to save a boy possessed by a powerful evil spirit. Song Hye-kyo plays Sister Unia, who goes to great lengths to prepare for the ritual to rescue the boy.
