Song Hye-kyo Breaks Political Silence by Liking President Lee Jae-myung's Post

Top star Song Hye-kyo has recently sparked interest by seemingly revealing her political stance for the first time since her debut. It was disclosed that she liked a post from President Lee Jae-myung.

In the wake of the recent 21st presidential election, many celebrities have openly expressed their political views, drawing attention. Following the impeachment crisis, various stars, including singer Lee Seung-hwan and actors Lee Gi-young, Kim Ui-sung, Kim Ga-yeon, Park Hae-mi, Jo Kwon, Lee Won-jong, Park Hyuk-kwon, Kim Soo-yong, Lee Eun-mi, Harim, and Shin Dae-chul, publicly supported President Lee Jae-myung. Conversely, artists like Kim Heung-guk, JK Kim Dong-wook, Lee Hyuk-jae, and Choi Jun-yong backed candidate Kim Moon-soo, while aespa's Karina and Hong Jin-kyung faced controversy for wearing red outfits before the election, which sparked political color debates.

Amidst this, Song Hye-kyo, who has never been involved in political issues since her debut, has garnered significant attention for liking a video featuring President Lee Jae-myung. The video, posted on Instagram on May 29, discusses the president's principles regarding appointments.

During the campaign, Lee Jae-myung, the Democratic Party's presidential candidate, expressed his political beliefs by stating, "If I were to take care of my close friends, I would have gone into business, not politics." Many netizens resonated with his words, liking and commenting on the post, and it was later revealed that Song Hye-kyo also liked it. Screenshots of her like quickly spread across online communities and social media, leading to a variety of reactions from netizens.

While not directly political, Song Hye-kyo has previously engaged in initiatives that honor the country's independence activists and commemorate national holidays. This year, she collaborated with Professor Seo Kyung-duk from Sungshin Women's University to produce a multilingual video titled 'Female Independence Warrior, Park Cha-jung' in celebration of the 106th anniversary of the March 1st Movement, which was released both domestically and internationally.

The 4-minute and 30-second video, planned by Professor Seo and sponsored by Song Hye-kyo, features narration in both Korean and English, reaching a wide audience. It details Park Cha-jung's significant contributions, including her role as a special envoy for the Provisional Government of the Republic of Korea, her leadership in the Korean Women's Association, and her teaching at the Korean Revolutionary Military and Political Cadre School. Notably, it emphasizes that she was the second female independence activist to be posthumously awarded the Order of Merit for National Foundation, following Yu Gwan-sun.

Additionally, for the past 14 years, Song Hye-kyo and Professor Seo have donated Korean guides, Korean signage, and relief sculptures of independence activists to 37 sites related to Korea's independence movement located overseas.
