During the Lunar New Year holiday, both Song Hye-kyo and Kwon Sang-woo are enjoying significant success at the box office. Song Hye-kyo's film, 'The Black Nuns' (검은 수녀들), surpassed 1 million viewers just six days after its release on January 29, creating a sensation in theaters. Similarly, Kwon Sang-woo's 'Hitman 2' (히트맨2) also crossed the 1 million mark on the same day, just eight days post-release, leading to a fierce competition for the top spot in the box office rankings.
'The Black Nuns' tells the story of individuals who embark on a forbidden ritual to save a boy possessed by a powerful evil spirit. The film has not only made waves in South Korea but also topped the box office in Indonesia for five consecutive days from its release on January 24 to January 28, attracting approximately 569,690 viewers, marking the highest score for a Korean film in Indonesia within its first five days.
With its gripping narrative and unique setting, 'The Black Nuns' is expected to maintain its strong box office performance throughout the remaining holiday period. The unpredictable storyline surrounding the characters' determination to rescue the possessed 'Hee-jun' has resonated well with audiences, drawing in viewers of all ages and revitalizing the theater scene during the Lunar New Year.
On the other hand, 'Hitman 2' has surged to the top of the box office. In its second week, the film attracted 272,155 viewers on January 29, marking a 36.2% increase from the previous day's 199,686 viewers, showcasing its growing popularity. The film continues to hold the top spot in advance ticket sales.
'Hitman 2' is a comedic action film that follows 'Jun', a once-successful writer who quickly falls from grace and becomes embroiled in a terrorist incident inspired by his new webtoon, leading to a series of chaotic events. The film is currently receiving positive reviews in theaters.
