Song Hye-kyo and Jeon Yeo-been Star in Upcoming Occult Film 'The Black Nuns'

The production press conference for the film 'The Black Nuns' took place on December 16 at CGV Yongsan I-Park Mall in Yongsan, Seoul. The event featured cast members Song Hye-kyo, Jeon Yeo-been, Lee Jin-wook, and Moon Woo-jin, along with director Kwon Hyuk-jae. Set to hit theaters on January 24, 2025, 'The Black Nuns' tells the story of individuals who engage in forbidden rituals to save a boy possessed by a powerful evil spirit. Kwon Hyuk-jae, known for directing 'The Outlaws' and 'Count', expressed his excitement about the project, noting the influence of director Jang Jae-hyun, who helmed 'The Priests'. He shared that reading the script left a strong impression on him, and he aimed to create a unique identity for 'The Black Nuns' while respecting the original film's universe.

The film has generated significant interest as a sequel to 'The Priests', which starred Gang Dong-won and Kim Yoon-seok. Song Hye-kyo, who chose this project following her success in the Netflix series 'The Glory', explained her decision, stating, "I was curious about what kind of project I would choose next. After receiving so much love for 'The Glory', I felt pressure in selecting my next role. However, after exploring genre work, I found it exciting and was drawn to 'The Black Nuns'. I believe this film will showcase a different side of me."

In 'The Black Nuns', Song Hye-kyo portrays Sister Unia, who is determined to save the boy at any cost, even if it means breaking the rules of her faith. She described her character as aggressive and willing to do whatever it takes to save a life, despite the moral dilemmas she faces.

When asked about her collaboration with Jeon Yeo-been, Song Hye-kyo expressed her delight, saying, "I really wanted to work with Yeo-been. I had heard so many good things about her from mutual friends. Meeting her exceeded my expectations. While she says I was a source of strength for her, she was a tremendous support for me. Without Michaela, Unia would have been helpless."

Jeon Yeo-been plays Sister Michaela, a psychiatrist and disciple of Father Paolo, who initially rejects the idea of exorcism but is drawn into the situation when she meets Sister Unia. Reflecting on her role, she shared, "I was curious about the boy's plight and felt compelled to help, despite my reservations."

Jeon Yeo-been, who previously won the Best Supporting Actress award at the 44th Blue Dragon Film Awards, expressed her excitement about her role in 'The Black Nuns', stating, "I promised to repay the audience with thrilling performances, and I poured my passion into portraying Michaela. I am eager to present a work that will be a proud gift to the audience."

Lee Jin-wook plays Father Paolo, who believes in saving the boy through medical means rather than exorcism. He shared his enthusiasm for the project, saying, "I love the occult genre, and I felt there was no reason not to take part in this film. Our team is incredibly reliable, which made me confident in my decision."

Moon Woo-jin, who portrays the possessed boy Hee-jun, admitted to feeling pressure to deliver a performance that matched the high standards set by previous actors in similar roles. He focused on portraying Hee-jun's struggle with the evil spirit while maintaining a youthful essence.

Director Kwon Hyuk-jae concluded the press conference by expressing his hope that audiences would soon experience the energy and dedication of the cast on screen, stating, "I felt like I was dreaming while casting each actor. I hope this feeling resonates with the audience."
