Son Yeon-jae Shares Honest Insights on Parenting in 'Hyungsoo is K.Will'

In a recent episode of K.Will's YouTube channel 'Hyungsoo is K.Will', former national rhythmic gymnast Son Yeon-jae opened up about her experiences with motherhood and her relationship with her husband. The episode, titled 'K.Will's Awkward Parenting Talk with His 4-Year-Older Sister-in-Law', aired on February 5, marking Son's first appearance on a broadcast since giving birth.

Son candidly discussed her romance and marriage, clarifying the timeline of their relationship. She explained, "When the dating rumors surfaced, it was said to be '4 months', but that was just when we were caught. I wanted to announce our marriage as soon as possible, but it happened unexpectedly. We announced our marriage just four months after acknowledging our relationship." She added, "We initially planned to marry after a year of dating, but due to venue availability, we moved the wedding up to summer."

Reflecting on their first meeting, Son shared, "I run a rhythmic gymnastics studio and teach adults. A student who had been learning for about two years asked if I had a boyfriend and offered to introduce me to someone. When I asked about his birth year, he said he was born in '85.' At first, I didn't want to meet him because I didn't even know his name, but by the end of the year, I changed my mind and thought I should meet someone mature."

Interestingly, her husband was quite shy during their introduction. Son recalled, "I was excited to meet him, but he didn't say a word to me, which made me feel a bit upset. Eventually, he reached out to ask me out for a meal, and we started seeing each other regularly."

When K.Will asked about their marriage, Son expressed her husband's confidence in their relationship, saying, "He was sure that marrying me would make him happy. He was open about everything, sharing both his strengths and weaknesses without trying to impress me. He assured me that he would always do his best."

As a trailblazer in South Korea's rhythmic gymnastics scene, Son is now navigating the challenges of parenting. K.Will inquired about the difficulties of raising a child, to which Son replied, "Initially, I thought it would be easier to have a baby and then go to the Olympics. But I found myself reflecting on why I had such emotional highs and lows during my Olympic career."

K.Will also asked what her husband does to help her, and Son praised him, saying, "He helps me at night, which is the hardest time for me. I work during the day and handle parenting at night and early morning. He allows me to get some restful sleep."

Curious about their child's resemblance, Son revealed, "When I saw the ultrasound, I thought he looked just like my husband. It made me a bit sad because I hoped he would resemble me a little. But as he grows, I can see more of myself in him."
