Son Dam-bi Shares Her Pregnancy Struggles and Tips for Expecting Mothers

On February 26, singer and actress Son Dam-bi opened up about her experiences as an expectant mother in a video titled "Q&A to Solve Your Curiosities (Emotional Warning)" on her channel, '담비손'. During the session, she addressed questions from her subscribers, including how to enjoy dating before childbirth. She mentioned, "Many couples go on prenatal trips before the baby arrives, but due to my condition of placenta previa, I can't travel abroad. There are risks of bleeding, so I've thought a lot about prenatal trips. Personally, I tend to be the type who doesn't feel the need to go out, but I understand how frustrating it can be for pregnant women. I’ve realized that there are many beautiful places in Korea where you can enjoy nature and fresh air."

Son Dam-bi reassured her fans about their concerns regarding gestational diabetes, stating, "Fortunately, I don't have gestational diabetes, but I do need to manage my diet. I believe tofu and avocado are excellent foods for pregnant women, so I often make salads with them. Eating protein first, followed by a slice of whole grain bread, keeps me full without swelling. I’ve tried it, and it makes for a great simple breakfast."

She also suggested that massages would make a thoughtful gift for pregnant women, explaining, "Every woman's body is different, but I personally don’t experience much swelling. I regularly get massages, and I think it’s a great way to promote lymphatic circulation. If husbands ask for gift ideas, I believe they would be happy to give massages as a present."

Discussing emotional changes during pregnancy, she shared, "I’m on a unique journey for the next ten months, and there are many challenges that pregnant women face, such as stretch marks and pigmentation. Hormonal changes can lead to emotional fluctuations. However, I can confidently say that I haven’t experienced much emotional change during my pregnancy. Having been in the entertainment industry for a long time, my life has had its ups and downs, but since getting married and pregnant, it has been quite stable."

Son Dam-bi emphasized the importance of a supportive husband during this time, stating, "The role of the husband is crucial in alleviating emotional fluctuations. Men often don’t understand what we go through since they don’t experience it themselves. My brother often comments on my growing belly, saying it looks cute, which helps keep my spirits up. Husbands really need to step up during this time, as it’s a lifelong commitment."

When it comes to pregnancy snacks, she admitted, "I find myself craving sweets more than usual, which is unusual for me. After my gestational diabetes test, I learned that even zero-calorie chocolate doesn’t help; it still raises blood sugar levels. I was misled by that idea. The doctor advised me to eat three hearty meals of Korean food instead of relying on snacks, which can also contain sugar. I recommend avoiding those snacks."

Regarding prenatal education, she stated, "I don’t do any specific prenatal education. I try to avoid stress and focus on laughing more. I believe that my happiness will be conveyed to the baby, and that’s my form of prenatal education."

As for post-pregnancy care, Son Dam-bi shared, "Exercise is one of the most important things for me, but I’ve had to put that content on hold. However, I want to reassure all expectant mothers that these changes are temporary and will pass. For those without issues like placenta previa, I highly recommend massages and exercise to minimize pigmentation. This too shall pass." She also hinted at future content related to childbirth and parenting, promising her fans that she will definitely share her experiences.
