Solo Exhibition by Korean Artist Jo Seon-a to Showcase the Essence of Time

From July 11 to August 10, the Gwangju Cultural Center will host a solo exhibition titled 'Capturing Time' by renowned Korean painter Jo Seon-a (조선아), known for her serene depictions of everyday landscapes. The exhibition will feature 35 paintings that reflect the subtle changes in nature and the delicate nuances of emotions. Jo describes her work as a deep contemplation of the concept of time, stating, 'I have recorded familiar scenes from daily life, capturing the traces of time within them.'
The artworks evoke a sense of tranquility, illustrating elements such as clouds drifting in the wind, the clarity of dawn, and the moments when sunsets unfold. Despite the apparent similarities in daily life, light, temperature, air, and emotions are in constant flux. Jo focuses on these changes, capturing fleeting emotions and color variations with a refined perspective.
Jo Seon-a expresses her hope that viewers will appreciate the beauty of nature that often goes unnoticed in our daily lives, saying, 'I aim to convey the warmth of light and time embedded in my works, inviting a moment of calm reflection.'
Jo graduated from Chonnam National University with a degree in Art Education and obtained her master's degree from Chosun University, where she also completed her doctoral coursework. She has participated in over ten solo exhibitions and various curated shows both domestically and internationally. In 2022, she received the Special Award from the Gwangju Cultural Arts Award for her contributions to the arts.
