So Ji-sub Reflects on 'I'm Sorry, I Love You' Ahead of New Classic Project Release

The six-part series 'I'm Sorry, I Love You' (미안하다, 사랑한다), a cornerstone of melodrama celebrating its 20th anniversary, is set to be re-released as part of Wavve's New Classic Project. Ahead of this revival, lead actors So Ji-sub and Jung Kyung-ho, along with director Lee Hyung-min, shared their favorite scenes from the iconic series, which continues to resonate with audiences.
So Ji-sub, who portrayed the character Cha Mu-hyuk, expressed his gratitude for the role, stating, "'I'm Sorry, I Love You' is an unforgettable and immensely valuable work for me." He highlighted the scene of Mu-hyuk's first encounter with Song Eun-chae (played by Im Soo-jung) as particularly memorable. In this pivotal moment, Eun-chae, having been robbed in Melbourne, unexpectedly meets Mu-hyuk, who speaks Korean. Their chance meeting leads to a series of events where they escape from gangsters and spend a night together at Mu-hyuk's hideout, culminating in a scene that became iconic in promotional materials. So Ji-sub remarked, "The love that began as a coincidence between Mu-hyuk and Eun-chae in a foreign land remains etched in my memory. I hope this winter's re-release of 'I'm Sorry, I Love You' brings joy to our fans."
Jung Kyung-ho, who played the role of Choi Yoon, shared that 'I'm Sorry, I Love You' was his breakout project shortly after debuting as a KBS talent. He chose the basketball scene in the hospital between Mu-hyuk and Yoon as his favorite. In this scene, Mu-hyuk, who learns that Yoon is his half-brother, saves him from drowning and later they bond over a game of basketball. Yoon, unaware of their true relationship, innocently offers to be Mu-hyuk's younger brother, which Jung Kyung-ho found particularly poignant. He expressed his appreciation for the long-lasting love fans have shown for the series over the past two decades, wishing everyone a warm winter with the return of 'I'm Sorry, I Love You.'
Director Lee Hyung-min selected Eun-chae's emotional confession scene at the subway station as his favorite. This moment encapsulates the series' tragic love story, reminiscent of a modern-day 'Romeo and Juliet.' Eun-chae, who typically suppresses her feelings, realizes her love for Mu-hyuk and confronts him, shouting, "Don't tell me what to do!" as she declares, "I love you, I love you, uncle!" The raw emotion in her confession, coupled with Mu-hyuk's heart-wrenching reaction, amplifies the series' tragic narrative.
Lee Hyung-min also expressed his gratitude to the dedicated fans who have kept the series alive for so long, allowing for this new project. He hopes that new viewers will embrace the 2024 version of 'I'm Sorry, I Love You.'
In addition to the re-release of '[Director's Cut] I'm Sorry, I Love You 2024,' Wavve is also unveiling other beloved dramas from the 2000s, including Winter Sonata (겨울연가), Boys Over Flowers (꽃보다 남자), and The Legend of Chunhyang (쾌걸춘향) as part of the New Classic Project, all presented in enhanced 4K quality.
