Singer Gu Jun-yeop Shares Heartfelt Thoughts After Wife Seo Hee-won's Passing

Singer Gu Jun-yeop has expressed his deep sorrow following the death of his wife, Seo Hee-won, and has clarified his stance on the inheritance issues surrounding her passing. According to multiple reports from Chinese and Taiwanese media on February 3, Seo Hee-won tragically passed away on February 2 at the age of 48 due to pneumonia caused by the flu while traveling in Japan with her family.
Seo Hee-won and her family had departed for Japan on January 29, where she reportedly exhibited symptoms of a cold and asthma on the day of departure. After being admitted to the emergency room, she succumbed to her illness in a Tokyo hospital.
Following her death, Gu Jun-yeop and other family members conducted some funeral rites in Japan before returning to Taiwan with her remains on February 5. The sudden news of Seo Hee-won's passing shocked fans both in Taiwan and South Korea, especially as it came just five days before their third wedding anniversary, prompting an outpouring of condolences and support for Gu Jun-yeop.
However, amidst the grief, unverified rumors and fake news began circulating, particularly regarding Seo Hee-won's inheritance and custody issues. Reports suggest that her total assets, which include a National Art Museum site, a penthouse, and property acquired during her divorce from Wang Xiao-fei, could amount to approximately 600 million yuan (around 120 billion KRW).
Local legal experts indicated that in the absence of a will, the law dictates that Gu Jun-yeop and their two minor children would each inherit one-third of her estate. Additionally, under Taiwanese law, Wang Xiao-fei would be the direct guardian of the two children.
In response to the ongoing speculation, Gu Jun-yeop took to social media on February 6 to share his feelings. He described the indescribable pain and sorrow he is experiencing, stating, "I am going through a time of heart-wrenching pain that words cannot express. I have neither the strength nor the desire to speak."
He condemned the spread of false news, saying, "Before we could even begin to mourn our tremendous loss, devilish people started to tarnish our family's love. Some pretend to be sad while others create fake news about insurance and expenses to hurt us. I sincerely ask for peace so that Hee-won can rest in peace."
Regarding the inheritance, he stated, "All of her assets were accumulated through her hard work to protect her beloved family, so I intend to give all authority to my mother-in-law. I will take legal measures to ensure that our children's rights are protected until they reach adulthood, so that no malicious individuals can interfere."
In closing, he reflected on the time spent with Seo Hee-won, saying, "The moments I shared with Hee-won are invaluable gifts that cannot be exchanged for anything in the world. I believe my last duty is to protect the family she loved the most. I want to express my heartfelt gratitude to everyone who loved and mourned for our Hee-won."
