Shin Ye-eun to Star in Disney+'s First Historical Drama 'Takryu'

Disney+ is set to exclusively release its first-ever historical drama series, <탁류> (Takryu), in 2025. This groundbreaking project will be helmed by renowned director Choo Chang-min, known for his critically acclaimed film <광해, 왕이 된 남자> (Masquerade), which attracted over 12 million viewers in 2012. Choo, who has a reputation for delivering rich narratives and well-developed characters, will be making his series directorial debut with <탁류>.
The series, written by the talented Cheon Sung-il, who gained fame for the hit drama <추노> (Chuno) and has recently captivated audiences with projects like <지금 우리 학교는> (All of Us Are Dead) and the <해적> (Pirates) film series, promises to bring a fresh perspective to the historical genre. <탁류> will explore the tumultuous lives of three characters: the rogue ‘Si-yul’ (로운), who has hidden his past; the principled and just ‘Choi-eun’ (신예은), a merchant leading the best trading company in Joseon; and the honest official ‘Jeong-cheon’ (박서함), who seeks to eradicate corruption.
The cast features rising stars including 로운, 신예은, 박서함, and 박지환, each bringing their unique talents to the project. 로운 will portray the rough-and-tumble character of ‘Jang Si-yul’, marking a significant transformation in his acting career. 신예은, who has gained international recognition for her roles in <정년이> (Youth), <꽃선비 열애사> (Flower Scholar's Love Story), and <더 글로리> (The Glory), will showcase her strength and charisma as ‘Choi-eun’. 박서함, known for his role in <시맨틱 에러> (Semantic Error), will take on the challenge of playing ‘Jeong-cheon’, while 박지환, celebrated for his performances in the <범죄도시> (The Outlaws) series, will portray ‘Mu-deok’, a character tasked with maintaining order in the chaotic world of the river pirates.
With a trusted production team and a dynamic cast, <탁류> is generating significant anticipation as it combines a compelling narrative with a rich historical backdrop. The series is set to premiere exclusively on Disney+ in 2025.
