Shin Soo-bong Sheds Tears While Singing Heartfelt Song on Immortal Songs

In the latest episode of KBS2's Immortal Songs (불후의 명곡), Shin Soo-bong emotionally performed her hit song 'Into the Abyss' (심연, 그 밖으로), which reflects the struggles of her son, Han Seung-hyun, during her remarriage. The episode aired on February 15, 2025, as part of the special New Year project featuring both Shin Soo-bong and Song Ga-in.
As she sang, Shin Soo-bong couldn't hold back her tears, expressing, 'This song makes me very sad. I fell in love with my current husband, but I hurt my son in the process. While I dreamed of happiness through my remarriage, it felt like a wilderness for him.'
Han Seung-hyun shared that his mother has cried every time she performs this song for the past 20 years, even showing the tissues he always carries in his pocket. He reassured her, saying, 'You are the best mother. I am grateful for the wonderful experiences I've had and for growing up without any lack.'
Shin Soo-bong reflected on the hardships her son faced due to her remarriage, stating, 'I often think about what I have given him, and I feel like I want to leave him my entire legacy.' This prompted laughter from the show's MC, Shin Dong-yeop, who congratulated Seung-hyun and jokingly suggested they become sworn brothers.
Additionally, MC Lee Chan-won, who referred to himself as 'Dr. Shin Soo-bong,' shared a nostalgic story about singing her song 'Men are Ships, Women are Ports' (남자는 배, 여자는 항구) at the age of four. This led Shin Soo-bong to offer a potential collaboration, surprising everyone.
The special episode featuring the legendary 'Trot Queen' Shin Soo-bong and the rising 'Trot King' Song Ga-in has garnered significant attention. Their collaboration is seen as a highlight of the 2025 New Year project for Immortal Songs. The second part of this special aired on February 15, following the first part on February 8, and the show continues to air weekly at 6:05 PM on KBS2.
