Shin Hyun-joon Remembers Late Mother Kim Soo-mi at 'Ghost Police' Press Conference

On January 13, a press screening for the film 'Ghost Police' took place at CGV Yongsan I-Park Mall in Yongsan, Seoul. Actor Shin Hyun-joon reflected on his late mother, the renowned actress Kim Soo-mi, during the event. He shared, "We had planned and created the film with hopes for a sequel, but my mother has passed away. I hope many people can enjoy her final gift."
In 'Ghost Police', Shin portrays Min Hyun-joon, a once-legendary police officer who falls from grace due to a single incident and ends up living with his mother and daughter. Kim Soo-mi plays the role of a strong-willed restaurant owner known for her famous sundae soup, who often sighs at her son's shortcomings while caring for her only granddaughter.
The duo previously showcased their close bond in films like 'Barefoot Gi-bong' and the 'Family Honor' series. As he reminisced about working with his mother in 'Ghost Police', Shin became emotional, stating, "My mother wished for the film to be well-made and to become a series. Since she is no longer with us, I debated whether to include the final scene, but the director suggested we keep it. Originally, the sequel was meant to start with my mother gaining superpowers, but that changed with her passing. After much discussion with the staff, we decided to leave her scenes untouched. 'Ghost Police' was envisioned as a franchise comedy from the start."
When asked about the film's box office expectations, Shin replied, "It's hard to predict the film's success, but I hope audiences see it as my mother's last gift to the staff and viewers. I want many people to enjoy her final work."
'Ghost Police', set to release on January 24, follows a police officer who, after an unexpected turn of events, gains a trivial ability and becomes embroiled in unforeseen incidents with his family. Directed by Kim Young-jun, known for 'The Last Gift... Ghost Break', the film promises a blend of comedy and heartfelt moments.
