Severe Rainfall Causes Damage in Incheon, South Korea

On July 17, 2025, Incheon experienced significant damage due to heavy rainfall that began on July 16. Reports indicate that homes and roads were flooded, and a wall of an officetel (office-tel) collapsed, damaging two parked vehicles. According to the Incheon Fire Department, there were 32 reports of rain-related damage received from 4 PM on July 16 to 10 AM on July 17.

At approximately 7:06 AM, a wall in the Ganseok-dong area of Namdong-gu fell towards the building's parking lot, resulting in the destruction of two cars. Later, at 8:32 AM, firefighters responded to an open manhole on a road in Juan-dong, Michuhol-gu, taking safety measures. In various neighborhoods, including Gajwa-dong and Majang-dong in Seo-gu, and Jangjeon-dong and Gyeyang-dong in Gyeyang-gu, homes were submerged, prompting drainage operations.

Additionally, parts of roads in Unnam-dong and Juan-dong were flooded, requiring water removal efforts. Trees were reported down in Gajwa-dong, Majang-dong, and Dorim-dong, while potholes formed in Hwasu-dong and Juan-dong.

The heavy rain warning issued for the Incheon area at 5 PM on July 16 was lifted by 10 AM on July 17. The highest recorded rainfall was 177 mm in Yeongheung-myeon, Ongjin-gun, followed by 118 mm in Songnim-dong, Dong-gu, and 111.2 mm in Jeondong, Jung-gu. The Korea Meteorological Administration warned that while the heavy rain advisory has been lifted, there is a possibility of more rain later in the afternoon and overnight.
