SEVENTEEN Takes Legal Action Against Online Trolls

The K-pop group SEVENTEEN is taking a firm stand against online harassment by requesting personal information from U.S. courts regarding malicious commenters. Their agency, Pledis Entertainment, announced on June 17 via the global fan community platform Weverse that they have initiated legal action, including criminal complaints and civil lawsuits, against multiple accounts that have repeatedly posted defamatory and false statements about the artists on the 'X' platform.
Pledis emphasized that they are currently pursuing legal procedures to swiftly identify the account holders and take appropriate follow-up actions, including requests for information disclosure from overseas jurisdictions such as the United States. They expressed serious concern over the ongoing insults and defamation directed at the artists, despite previous legal actions, and are committed to enhancing their monitoring and response processes to ensure continuous and structural protection.
The agency also stated that they will seek strict penalties for any acts of defamation, mockery, or slander against the artists without any leniency or settlement. Following previous legal complaints regarding the leak of artist information, the identified defendants' charges have been acknowledged and are now awaiting legal proceedings.
Pledis reiterated their commitment to vigorously address malicious acts that infringe on the rights of their artists, ensuring that the values cherished by fans and SEVENTEEN are fully protected. Recently, SEVENTEEN achieved global success with their fifth studio album, 'Happy Birthday,' which debuted at number two on the Billboard 200 chart.
