SEVENTEEN Dominates Japanese Charts with 'HAPPY BURSTDAY'

The popular K-pop group SEVENTEEN (에스쿱스, 정한, 조슈아, 준, 호시, 원우, 우지, 디에잇, 민규, 도겸, 승관, 버논, 디노) has once again proven their immense popularity in Japan. According to Oricon on June 3, their fifth studio album 'HAPPY BURSTDAY' has sold over 457,000 copies, securing the top spot on the latest 'Weekly Album Ranking' for the week of June 9 (covering the period from May 26 to June 1). Notably, this achievement marks the highest weekly album sales among all international male and female artists who released albums this year.

This latest chart-topping success is SEVENTEEN's 14th overall, continuing their record as the foreign artist with the most number-one albums. Since their mini-album 'Attacca' in 2021, they have achieved 10 consecutive number-one albums.

'HAPPY BURSTDAY' has received a warm reception in Japan right after its release, dominating the real-time and daily 'Album Top 100' on Line Music, as well as topping the local iTunes 'Top Albums' and Apple Music 'Top Albums' charts. The album also held the number one position on the Oricon 'Daily Album Ranking' for six consecutive days (from May 27 to June 1).

The group continues to lead on domestic and global charts as well. In its first week of release (from May 26 to June 1), the album sold over 2.52 million copies, topping the Hanteo Chart's weekly album chart. This figure represents the highest first-week sales for any K-pop album released this year. Additionally, 'HAPPY BURSTDAY' claimed the number one spot in the comprehensive daily and weekly 'Digital Bestselling Album' categories on China's QQ Music.

The title track 'THUNDER' has maintained its top position on the Bugs daily chart for three consecutive days (from May 30 to June 1) and has consistently ranked high on Melon's 'Top 100' chart. International media have praised the song, describing it as "explosive and captivating, unlike any other track" (Billboard), a "highly polished track suitable for large summer festivals" (CLASH), and highlighting the "chemistry among the members and the charm of the group" (NME).
