Seoul National University Law Students Express Guilt Over President Yoon's Actions

Students from the Seoul National University School of Law (로스쿨), the alma mater of President Yoon Suk-yeol, have issued a statement condemning his declaration of martial law. They expressed feelings of guilt, stating, "We feel a sense of responsibility as juniors for the tragedy caused by a senior who learned the Constitution in the same classroom."

In their statement released on December 5, the students remarked, "We witness a crisis in democracy in the face of the tyrannical abuse of power that takes us back 45 years. President Yoon Suk-yeol continues to shamelessly insist that the martial law he imposed is constitutional, despite its blatant violation of the Constitution." They characterized Yoon's martial law as a coup d'état aimed at consolidating power, asserting that it infringes upon the legislative branch and the basic rights of citizens, labeling it as insurrection led by President Yoon.

The students demanded his resignation and an apology to the public, criticizing the use of martial law as a trivial political tool. They expressed deep shame and guilt as juniors, reflecting on the actions of their senior, Yoon Suk-yeol, who graduated from the law department in 1983, the predecessor of the current law school.

Additionally, on the same day, 50 faculty members and researchers from Seoul National University also released a statement condemning President Yoon's martial law declaration. This follows a previous statement demanding his resignation, which was issued just a week prior, citing various allegations surrounding First Lady Kim Gun-hee.

The faculty expressed serious concerns that the president's delusional abuse of power could lead to further crises, stating, "We fear that he may orchestrate a second or third martial law, putting both the nation and its citizens at risk again. We call for the immediate arrest of Yoon Suk-yeol for declaring an unconstitutional and illegal martial law, mobilizing the military to invade the National Assembly, and disrupting the constitutional order."
