Seoul Festival to Showcase Korean Composers at LA Philharmonic

The 'Seoul Festival', directed by composer Jin Eun-sook (진은숙), is set to take place from June 3 to June 10 at the Walt Disney Concert Hall in Los Angeles. This festival marks the first time the Los Angeles Philharmonic will dedicate a week of performances to the theme of a specific country, as reported by the Korean Cultural Center in LA on May 19.

Kicking off on June 3, the festival will feature a concert titled 'New Sounds of Korea', showcasing works by Korean composers including Jin Eun-sook, Seo Joo-ri (서주리), and Bae Dong-jin (배동진). The performances will be delivered by the LA Philharmonic's New Music Group, a contemporary music ensemble, alongside the TIMF Ensemble from Korea, conducted by Choi Soo-yeol (최수열).

From June 6 to June 8, the LA Philharmonic, under the baton of conductor Yoon Han-gyeol (윤한결), will present new compositions by Korean composers. Highlights include a viola concerto by Kim Taek-soo (김택수), a professor at San Diego State University, on June 6, and Jin Eun-sook's clarinet concerto on June 7 and 8. Renowned musicians such as pianist Kim Sun-wook (김선욱), violinist Yang In-mo (양인모), and cellist Han Jae-min (한재민) will also perform Brahms concertos.

The festival will conclude on June 10 with a chamber music performance by the Novus Quartet. The Korean Cultural Center in LA emphasized the significance of the 'Seoul Festival' in showcasing the collaboration between Korean composers and the LA Philharmonic, highlighting the cultural exchange it represents.
