Seol Woon Do Reveals the Story Behind His Hit Song 'Woman, Woman, Woman'

On the November 23 episode of MBN's reality variety show, 가보자GO (Let's Go), veteran trot singer Seol Woon Do shared intriguing stories about his hit songs. With over 43 years in the industry, he performed a medley of his popular tracks and discussed the inspiration behind his first self-composed song, 'Compass' (나침반). Seol explained that he was waiting for a song from a famous composer, but when it didn't arrive, he decided to create one himself. "After listening to countless songs, I felt inspired to write my own," he said, adding that the positive response to 'Compass' made him realize he had songwriting talent.

Seol also revealed that his iconic song 'Woman, Woman, Woman' (여자 여자 여자) was born out of a fight with his wife. He shared, "I don’t usually argue with my wife; I tend to avoid conflict. However, she was upset and ended up writing down her feelings. I took her words and the next day, when I played it for her, she cried. Seeing her emotional reaction made me think, 'This could be a hit.'"

When asked by Hong Hyun Hee how he met his wife, Seol reminisced, "We got together because we liked each other. Our first child was born in Cheongpyeong. My wife had aspirations of acting and expressed a desire to sing, so I told her, 'I’m a famous composer.'" He expressed his ongoing gratitude and remorse for the struggles his wife faced due to his career, revealing that the protagonist of Lim Young Woong's song 'Starry Night' (별나사) is inspired by her. He added, "Lim Young Woong's junior mentioned that he really liked those lyrics."
