Seojanghoon Expresses Outrage Over Domestic Violence Case on 'High School Mom and Dad 5'

In the latest episode of MBN's 'High School Mom and Dad 5' (고딩엄빠5), aired on December 4, 2024, former contestant Park Jae-wook revealed that he and his wife, Lee Yoo-ri, have been living separately for ten months, prompting outrage from host Seojanghoon.

Park Jae-wook returned to the studio alone, stating, "I lost the most precious thing in my life and didn't know what to do," referring to his wife and son. He shared that he has been working in agriculture and expressed his struggles, revealing that he and his wife have been apart for a significant period.

He explained, "The mother of my child took our son and is currently living separately, and my wife is demanding a divorce." Text messages from his wife confirmed her desire for separation. During a previous appearance, Lee Yoo-ri had expressed a need for more attention from her husband, and Park had promised to be there for her. However, he admitted to neglecting her due to his busy schedule.

Recalling a recent incident, Park said, "I came home after work, and no one was there. It was time to pick up my son from school, but my wife wasn't answering her phone. I was furious because if I hadn't finished work early, there would have been no one to take care of our child."

Lee Yoo-ri, on the other hand, shared her perspective, stating, "I’m living with a friend and sometimes run into my husband on the street, so I wanted to come on the show to express my thoughts about wanting to end things with him." She recounted instances where her husband would invite friends over, leaving her to manage the situation alone.

The couple's conflicting accounts of the same events led to heated discussions, with Park admitting to verbally abusing his wife while intoxicated. Seojanghoon reacted strongly, stating, "Even if the wife did something wrong, cursing her is unacceptable. That's the end of it." Lawyer Lee In-cheol added that verbal abuse and violence are grounds for divorce.

Park also mentioned that Lee Yoo-ri expressed embarrassment about living in their rural area, to which she responded, "I never said I was ashamed of farming. I was concerned about the instability of income and suggested considering a change."

Despite Park's longing for his family, Lee Yoo-ri's resolve to divorce remained firm. She expressed, "I don’t want to go back to that hell. I don’t think I can be a good father, so I don’t want to be involved. I want to fill the void left by his absence for our son."

Lee also revealed that she felt neglected and that her husband’s drinking led to physical altercations. Seojanghoon was appalled, stating, "What era are we living in? How can you resort to violence?" Park acknowledged his wife's claims, and Seojanghoon expressed his anger, saying, "That's the most cowardly thing a man can do." Lee Yoo-ri added that their son now has a fear of men, saying, "Trust and faith have been shattered. Since then, my son has been scared of men. I can brush off my feelings, but I feel guilty for my son and don’t want to go back."

Lawyer Lee In-cheol advised that if Park feels remorse, a clean divorce would be best for both parties.
