Seo Ye-ji Transforms Controversies into Comedy on SNL Korea 7
Actress Seo Ye-ji has creatively addressed the controversies surrounding her in a comedic format. On April 12, she appeared as a host on SNL Korea 7, which was released on Coupang Play, showcasing a variety of skits that hinted at her past issues.
Before diving into the sketches, Seo expressed her determination, saying, "I feel a bit pressured, but I will do my best to meet your expectations. I will put everything aside and work hard." When asked by Shin Dong-yeop how she planned to do this, she humorously replied, "I will gaslight the crew to make it fun."
Her first skit, a parody of the trending ChatGPT titled 'Seo Ye-ji-pi-ti,' involved her gaslighting Kim Won-hoon, making him feel he couldn't live without her. This reference to gaslighting echoed her past controversies, and during the skit, she advised Kim, who was unable to admit he received help from AI, saying, "The real embarrassment is sitting quietly and being talked about. I’ve been through that a lot."
In the second segment, 'Eve's Beauty Salon,' while washing Kim Won-hoon's hair, she commented on his neck, saying, "It feels very knotted." When he responded, "It’s pretty stiff, right?" Seo, trying to correct him, insisted, "It’s firm, not stiff," leading to laughter as she playfully hit his neck.
In the third skit, 'Shy Ye-ji-chan,' she portrayed a naive girlfriend of Shin Dong-yeop, who initially seemed innocent but later revealed her past relationships when her ex-boyfriend appeared. Seo quipped, "I pretended to be pure because my ideal type is a pure girl, but I’ve dated a lot."
The final skit featured a character that alluded to her academic fraud allegations. Her agency previously stated that Seo was accepted to Madrid's Complutense University but could not attend due to her career in Korea. However, local testimonies suggested she never enrolled, highlighting her previous fabrications in interviews and broadcasts.
Throughout the show, Seo Ye-ji tackled various controversies, including the Kim Jung-hyun gaslighting incident, the 'Kim Stiff' affair, the Kim Soo-hyun love triangle rumors, and her academic fraud allegations. Reflecting on the experience, she stated, "The tears I shed felt deeper than those at any awards ceremony. I laughed deeply with the crew, and I’m grateful to everyone who came out late to watch. I will never forget today."
Viewer reactions have been mixed. Some criticize the comedic portrayal of serious incidents, especially the Kim Jung-hyun gaslighting case, which involved a victim, Seo Hyun. Others appreciate Seo's candid approach in addressing her controversies directly.
In December of last year, Seo Ye-ji held her first fan meeting at Seongam Art Hall, and prior to SNL Korea 7, she appeared on TV CHOSUN's 'Chef Heo Young-man's Baekban Journey,' showcasing her honest personality.
