Seo Taiji Reflects on 24 Years of Change Amidst Political Turmoil

On December 24, 2024, iconic singer Seo Taiji took to his official social media account to share his thoughts and updates as Christmas approached. This marks the first time in a year that he has personally communicated with fans since his last message on Christmas Eve 2023.

In his post, Seo Taiji expressed, "Another year has passed, and Christmas in December is here. This year was the Year of the Wood Dragon; have you all achieved your valuable dreams? I feel like I've been fulfilling some small dreams myself." He also addressed the current political climate in South Korea, stating, "These days, the country is buzzing with the impeachment crisis after seven years. It’s unfortunate to see another impeachment as we approach 2025."

He reminisced about the participation of his fans, known as ?t로들, in recent protests, asking, "Are the cheering sticks still working? I hear many friends in their 20s are joining in, which reminds me of our past struggles together. It’s heartwarming. Let’s be the supportive uncles and aunts for the youth leading our future."

Seo Taiji humorously noted, "We, the X Generation, also went through a tumultuous youth, and now we find ourselves in middle age. I worry about our ?t로들 in this cold weather; please dress warmly!" He reflected on the passage of time, recalling significant milestones in his career, including the release of his albums over the past 30 years.

"Ten years can change a lot, and looking back to when my daughter was born, I remember the release of my ninth album, which included 'Miracle of Christmas.' Just ten years before that, my seventh album, 'Robot,' was released, and another ten years back was my third album in 1994. It’s incredible how much the world has changed in just three cycles of ten years."

He continued, "The world today is vastly different from 30 years ago. Sometimes it feels strange and overwhelming, but we are the only generation to have experienced the transition from analog to digital and now to artificial intelligence. I believe we will continue to live strongly, no matter what happens in the future."

Despite the ongoing political unrest, he wished everyone a warm and safe Christmas with their families and friends, stating, "I will return, so don’t worry too much. Let’s all stay healthy and look forward to an exciting 2025."

On the same day, Seo Taiji's official YouTube channel released upscaled versions of pre-recorded performances from his sixth album, including tracks like 'Orange,' 'Ultraman,' and 'Internet War.' He encouraged fans to revisit those times to gain energy and vitality for a healthy life.

Seo Taiji debuted in 1989 and became a cultural icon in the 1990s with his group Seo Taiji and Boys, challenging the norms of the music industry and delivering socially conscious messages through his music. He married actress Lee Ji-ah in 1997 but divorced in 2009. He later married actress Lee Eun-sung in 2013 and welcomed a daughter the following year.
