Scarlett Johansson Achieves Childhood Dream with 'Jurassic World: New Beginnings'

Hollywood actress Scarlett Johansson has fulfilled a childhood dream by starring in the film 'Jurassic World: New Beginnings'. A press conference for the movie was held on July 1 at the Four Seasons Hotel in Jongno, Seoul, featuring Johansson alongside co-stars Jonathan Bailey, Rupert Friend, and director Gareth Edwards.
Set to release on July 2, 'Jurassic World: New Beginnings' (referred to as 'Jurassic World 4') follows characters Zora and Dr. Henry as they venture into the most dangerous island on Earth, home to the secret research facility of the original Jurassic Park, to uncover shocking truths and survive the threats posed by dinosaurs. Gareth Edwards, known for his work on 'Rogue One: A Star Wars Story' and 'The Creator', directed the film, creating a unique cinematic experience.
Edwards discussed the challenges of balancing the film's direction, stating, "Making a movie involves hundreds of decisions. If I go left, I risk repeating the original 'Jurassic World'; if I go right, I could stray too far from it. I aimed to maintain a balance and selfishly create a film for myself. In a way, 'Jurassic World 4' feels like a love letter to Steven Spielberg."
Johansson, who last visited Korea in 2017 for 'Ghost in the Shell', expressed her excitement about returning, saying, "I’m thrilled to be in Korea. I wish I had more time here. I went to Myeongdong and bought a lot of skincare and makeup products, and I tried seven different types of kimchi. I’m really looking forward to meeting fans tonight. Thank you for always welcoming us."
In her role as Zora, a special operations expert, Johansson hinted at a new transformation. She shared, "I was lucky. My childhood dream has come true. As a huge fan of 'Jurassic World', I participated with pride." She also recounted the challenges of filming, noting, "I had to act as if I were interacting with dinosaurs while looking at a tennis ball on a stick. I had to maintain my energy and tension while also conveying fear. The action scenes were intense, and I had to show determination the moment the cue was given. If there was a camera issue, I had to relax and then ramp up the tension again. I had to express awe and surprise while looking at a tennis ball, but my fellow actors were fantastic, helping us all stay immersed in the scene."
Jonathan Bailey remarked on the enthusiastic response from Korean fans, saying, "I’ve heard that the reactions from Korean audiences are among the best in the world. There are many movie lovers in Korea, and I’m happy to be in a country that appreciates films. I’m sad to leave tomorrow morning, but I want to enjoy today to the fullest."
Bailey, who plays paleontologist Dr. Henry, expressed his desire to convey curiosity and wonder about dinosaurs, stating, "Just being part of the 'Jurassic World' series made me feel like I was actually meeting dinosaurs as Dr. Henry."
Rupert Friend, who portrays Martin, an executive at a pharmaceutical company hiring Zora for drug development, shared his fond memories of his second visit to Korea, saying, "I had the opportunity to speak in Seoul with my wife, creating beautiful memories with veterans, politicians, and fans."
He recalled a memorable scene during filming, saying, "There was a moment against a beautiful backdrop where a dinosaur encounters Dr. Henry. Watching Jonathan film that scene gave me chills. Seeing someone genuinely amazed by a dinosaur for the first time almost brought me to tears. It made me realize the power of imagination and what this franchise represents."
Finally, Gareth Edwards mentioned his girlfriend's fandom for BLACKPINK, sharing, "Before making this film, we attended their concert in LA, and the fandom was incredible. I’ve never seen so many fans gathered in one place filled with love. I expect the response from Korean fans will be the biggest as we promote 'Jurassic World 4' around the world. We have many events planned for tonight, and I anticipate it will be an amazing experience."
