SBS Unveils Character Posters for Upcoming Fantasy Historical Drama '귀궁'
SBS is gearing up for a strong showing in the first half of 2025 with its new Friday-Saturday drama, '귀궁' (Gwigung), set to premiere on April 18. The network has released character posters featuring Yook Sung-jae and Kim Ji-yeon, marking the beginning of this fantasy historical romantic comedy.
'귀궁' tells the story of Yeori, a shaman who rejects her destined fate, and her first love, Yoon-gap, who becomes possessed by the dragon spirit, Gang-cheol. Together, they confront the vengeful spirit known as 'Palcheokwi' in a tale of body-swapping romance. The collaboration between director Yoon Sung-sik and writer Yoon Soo-jung, along with the star-studded cast of Yook Sung-jae, Kim Ji-yeon, and Kim Ji-hoon, has already generated significant buzz.
The newly released posters showcase the characters' unique traits. Yook Sung-jae sports a mischievous smile, adorned in a black robe with scale patterns, wielding a massive sword on his shoulder, and exuding the aura of Gang-cheol, who has taken over Yoon-gap's body. His portrayal hints at the chic yet playful nature of the dragon spirit.
In contrast, Kim Ji-yeon, dressed in a green shaman outfit and holding a fan, gazes directly at the viewer. Her poised appearance is complemented by a determined statement: "Nari, I will definitely save you," highlighting Yeori's strong character. The dragon motif on her fan foreshadows the intertwined fates of Yeori and Gang-cheol, igniting anticipation for their complex relationship.
In the drama, Yeori is a 'young shaman' and the granddaughter of a renowned fortune teller. Although she possesses spiritual abilities, she chooses to live as a glasses artisan instead of following the shamanic path. Yoon-gap, on the other hand, is a sword instructor and Yeori's first love, who faces the challenge of being possessed by the malevolent spirit, Gang-cheol, leading Yook Sung-jae to portray multiple roles.
With Yoon Sung-sik's unique genre-blending style, known from '철인왕후' (Mr. Queen), and Yoon Soo-jung's expertise from '왕의 얼굴' (The King's Face), '귀궁' promises to be an innovative historical drama that mixes tradition with modernity, thrill with romance.
The excitement now lies in how the 'hate-to-love' romance will unfold, as the first love is possessed by a malevolent spirit and the counterpart is a shaman. Viewers are eager to see how the romantic entanglements between Yeori and Gang-cheol will develop.
