SBS Addresses Controversy Surrounding Director Ham Jun-ho of 'My Perfect Secretary'

SBS has issued a statement regarding the controversy surrounding Ham Jun-ho, the director of the drama 'My Perfect Secretary' (나의 완벽한 비서), confirming that he received a suspension as a result of procedural actions taken against him. On January 13, SBS expressed regret for the distress caused by the news related to Ham PD, stating that he faced allegations of assault and insult while intoxicated in early 2020. Ham has since apologized sincerely to all victims and has undergone legal proceedings that included forgiveness and settlement. The network further clarified that Ham PD was suspended in accordance with company procedures and has spent three years reflecting on his actions before returning to directing. They requested the understanding of viewers during this time.

Recently, an incident involving a broadcasting station's PD from 2020 has resurfaced online. Reports from that time indicated that an individual, identified as A, who worked in the SBS drama department, caused a disturbance in Hannam-dong, Seoul, on March 1, 2020, while heavily intoxicated, throwing soju at pedestrians and engaging in random assaults. After being arrested, A reportedly yelled at police officers and directed sexual insults towards a female officer in her twenties. Although the police sought an arrest warrant due to A's prior criminal record, the prosecution ultimately rejected the request.

As it became known that the PD involved in the incident was Ham Jun-ho, the director of 'My Perfect Secretary', the drama found itself entangled in the controversy. Ham PD has previously directed other SBS dramas such as 'Greasy Melo' (기름진 멜로) and 'Revenger Returns' (복수가 돌아왔다) and returned to directing in 2023 with the drama 'Law Money' (법쩐) after a period of reflection following the 2020 incident.
