Sam Hammington Considers Family Immigration to Australia

On the May 26 episode of Channel A's 'Close Friends Documentary: Four-Person Table,' Sam Hammington shared his thoughts on potentially immigrating to Australia with his family. He reflected on the influence of his parents during his childhood, noting that his mother was a talented casting director in Australia who discovered world stars. Hammington mentioned, "My parents divorced when I was young, but my mom was not very strict."

He expressed that while he learned many things, he felt he didn't receive proper guidance, stating, "I think they let me be too free and didn’t nag me much. I want to support my children so they can grow up well with just a little help."

Hammington also opened up about his father, recalling that their relationship was strained at the time of their separation. He reconnected with his father during his mother's 60th birthday, which improved their relationship. However, he received the tragic news in 2004 while in Korea that his father had passed away from a brain hemorrhage.

With tears in his eyes, Hammington recounted the disbelief he felt upon hearing the news, explaining that it took him a week to arrange a flight to New Zealand for the funeral, as he was the only son. He shared a poignant moment from the funeral, where he placed $100 in his father's suit pocket as a final gesture, symbolizing a last drink on his journey.

Hammington expressed a desire to honor his father's legacy through his son, wanting to keep his father's memory alive. He also mentioned that he notices his mother's health declining each time he visits her once a year, which has led him to consider family immigration to Australia. He expressed concern, saying, "If my mom's health deteriorates like my dad's did, I don't know if I can handle it."
