Sa Kang Opens Up About Retirement Rumors on Solo Because of You

In the latest episode of SBS Plus's Solo Because of You (솔로라서), actress Sa Kang candidly shared her experiences surrounding the unexpected retirement rumors that circulated in 2008. During her conversation with close friend and fellow actor Oh Man-seok, Sa Kang reflected on her life after the loss of her husband, expressing her resilience by stating, "People find a way to live; there are many who have it harder than I do."

Sa Kang recounted the events that led to the rumors, clarifying, "I never said I was retiring." She explained that on the day she was set to leave for the United States, she was caught off guard by reporters at the airport, who asked if she was attending a concert in LA, where K-pop stars were performing at the time. When she mentioned she was moving to the U.S., the media misinterpreted her words, leading to the sudden retirement headlines.

Reflecting on the impact of those rumors, Sa Kang noted, "The retirement rumors caused me to withdraw from my next project as well." Oh Man-seok humorously pointed out that moving to another country is a more significant statement than retiring, to which Sa Kang laughed and acknowledged, "I guess I made a mistake there." She shared that she had initially planned to stay in the U.S. for ten years but returned to Korea after three due to unforeseen circumstances.

Sa Kang also expressed her passion for acting, stating, "I want to show my children proper acting someday. My goal is for my performance not to look like a mother’s role in the future."
