Rosé Transforms Pain into Art with New Single 'Number One Girl'

Rosé of BLACKPINK has revealed that she channeled her struggles with malicious comments into her music, leading to the creation of her newly released single, 'Number One Girl.' On November 29, during her appearance on KBS's 'The Seasons - Lee Young-ji's Rainbow,' Rosé shared the inspiration behind the song. 'Number One Girl' is a heartfelt track that reflects her genuine thoughts for her fans. She admitted, 'As a human, I want to say, 'I am a healthy person who reads books at home,' but there were times I tortured myself by reading hate comments until 5 AM.' She expressed her embarrassment about admitting to friends that she spent the night searching for negative comments online, which ultimately inspired her songwriting for 'Number One Girl.'
Rosé emphasized her desire to write a brutally honest song, stating, 'I wanted to write something so candid that it might make someone uncomfortable. I thought, let’s just be raw with this one.' After finishing the song, she felt a sense of relief, recalling, 'From that day on, I became addicted to the studio, spending the entire year there.'
She also discussed the creation of her single 'Apartment,' explaining, 'While working in the U.S., I introduced a drinking game to my foreign friends out of boredom. They ended up playing 'Apartment' all night long. I thought, let’s have fun with this since I’ve done a lot of serious work until now.' She was pleasantly surprised by the positive reception.
Regarding her collaboration with Bruno Mars, Rosé shared, 'Bruno asked me to send him three songs, and I wanted to send 'Apartment,' but people around me advised against it. I secretly sent it anyway.' She noted that when she explained to Bruno that 'Apartment' is a Korean drinking game, he found it intriguing and agreed to collaborate.
Rosé described Bruno Mars as a 'perfectionist' with a 'tsundere' style, meaning he appears indifferent but is actually very caring.
Her upcoming album, 'Rosie,' will feature stories from her twenties, capturing both beautiful and challenging experiences. Rosé hopes that her music will provide comfort and empathy to listeners, especially during the difficult times of their twenties. The album will include 12 tracks, featuring the duet 'Apartment' with Bruno Mars and 'Number One Girl,' and is set to be released on December 6.
Recently, Rosé has also achieved success on the UK Official Singles Chart, with 'Apartment' reaching number 3 and maintaining its position for six consecutive weeks. 'Number One Girl' debuted at number 84 on the same chart.
