Rosé of BLACKPINK Opens Up About Online Harassment and Her Upcoming Album

Rosé, a member of the popular K-pop group BLACKPINK, expressed her emotions during a recent interview with The New York Times, where she discussed the challenges faced by female artists in the K-pop industry, including online harassment. In the interview, released on November 23, 2024, Rosé reflected on her experiences as a trainee and shared her feelings about releasing her first solo album.

Recalling her trainee days, Rosé admitted to feeling profound loneliness, stating, "I didn’t understand the loneliness I had to endure. It was such a shock that it could have become a trauma, but I survived." When asked about her experiences with online bullying directed at female artists, she became emotional and acknowledged, "I think that’s true."

Rosé described herself as having a strong personality, saying, "I didn’t want to feel emotional about it because I want to say I’m quite strong. I try to assess situations positively and wisely, but when such things happen, it really doesn’t feel good." She expressed her shock at the negativity online, questioning, "Why do they just let it happen?"

To cope with these challenges, Rosé found solace in songwriting, describing it as a blessing during difficult times. "Songwriting came to me like a blessing when I really needed it. If I can put big problems into a song, it leaves my heart," she explained.

As she prepares to release her debut album, titled ‘rosie’ on December 6, Rosé shared that the process of creating the album felt as essential as breathing. She admitted to having fears about revealing her true self, stating, "I was afraid to show this side of me. That’s why this album means so much to me."
