RIIZE Unveils First Full Album 'ODYSSEY' with Title Track 'Fly UP'

On May 19, boy group RIIZE held a showcase at Blue Square in Yongsan, Seoul, to celebrate the release of their first full album, 'ODYSSEY'. The album features a total of 10 tracks, including the title song 'Fly UP'. The group made a significant impact last year with their hit song 'Boom Boom Bass', which showcased their unique sound characterized by rhythmic instrumentals. They describe their music as 'emotional pop', but the bass-driven beats evoke nostalgia for the nu-disco era of the 2000s.

The new album introduces a fresh formula for success with the incorporation of clapping sounds. During the showcase, the title track 'Fly UP' was pre-released, captivating listeners with its upbeat clapping rhythm. The members explained that the song is rooted in the lively rock and roll music of the 1950s, featuring a simple yet energetic danceable melody. The music video, filmed in the middle of a Los Angeles street, is styled like a high school youth film, reflecting the vibrant energy of youth.

The members view this album as a representation of their journey's beginning, encapsulating both RIIZE's past and future. Member Wonbin expressed his excitement upon first hearing the title track, stating, 'I thought, this is really good, this is it.' He added that if someone were to ask what kind of team RIIZE is, this album would serve as a perfect explanation. Sohee mentioned that the song carries a message of unity, encouraging everyone, regardless of age, nationality, or gender, to rise together.

'ODYSSEY' marks RIIZE's first attempt at a full-length album since their debut. It includes a variety of genres, such as their first ballad 'The End of Every Day' and the dance track 'Ingle', which conveys a message of overcoming adversity to reach one's goals. Notably, the instrumental track 'Passage' features contributions from member Anton's father, renowned singer-songwriter Yoon Sang. Anton shared his surprise and satisfaction with the collaboration, emphasizing the album's diverse musical styles.

Prior to the album's release, RIIZE filmed a cinematic film that showcases videos for each track, totaling 40 minutes. This film was screened in offline theaters and online viewing events across four Asian countries: South Korea, China, Japan, and Thailand, allowing fans to preview the album's songs. It is rare for an idol group to create tailored videos for every track on a full album. Member Shotaro recalled a recent screening event where they all gathered at a theater, reminiscing about their journey and feeling emotional alongside their managers and staff.

Starting in July, RIIZE will perform songs from 'ODYSSEY' on their world tour, which will kick off in Seoul and cover 14 regions, including Japan, Malaysia, and Thailand. The Seoul concert will be their first solo performance since debuting.

The members shared that preparing for this album has given them the courage to pursue their goals. Seongchan noted that their honest storytelling in the lyrics, aligned with their emotional pop style, is what makes RIIZE unique. He concluded the showcase with a playful acrostic poem based on the title track 'Fly UP': 'Pl'ay up, 'Ri'ZE, 'I' hope we can 'UP' up together!'
