Renowned Austrian Pianist Alfred Brendel Passes Away at 94

Alfred Brendel, the esteemed Austrian pianist, passed away on June 17 at his home in London, England, at the age of 94. Brendel was celebrated for his interpretations of classical and romantic composers such as Mozart, Beethoven, and Schubert. He notably recorded all 32 of Beethoven's sonatas three times, with his 1960s recording of the complete piano works being recognized as the first of its kind. He made his debut as a pianist at the age of 17 and gained attention after placing fourth in the Busoni Competition in 1949.
In response to the news of Brendel's passing, pianist Cho Seong-jin took to social media to express his condolences, writing in English, "Rest in peace, Maestro Brendel. You have shaped so much of who I am as a pianist today. Thank you for your music and inspiration."
