Remembering Comedian Choi Seo-in on the 7th Anniversary of Her Passing

Today marks the seventh anniversary of the passing of comedian Choi Seo-in (최서인), who left us on December 18, 2017, at the age of 35 after battling ovarian cancer. Born in 1983, Choi graduated from Chung-Ang University with a degree in music and debuted as a comedian through SBS's 10th open recruitment. She gained popularity after joining the cast of Comedy Big League (코미디 빅리그) in 2011, particularly for her work in the 'Some & Some' (썸&쌈) segment alongside Park Na-rae (박나래).

Choi's struggle with ovarian cancer began in 2014, leading to multiple surgeries as she fought to recover. Despite receiving a diagnosis that she was 'close to recovery,' the cancer unfortunately recurred, leading to her untimely death. Her father expressed his sorrow, stating, "After undergoing several surgeries and hearing that her condition was improving, we were overjoyed to hear she was 'close to recovery,' but her sudden passing has left us feeling lost and hopeless."

During her illness, Choi received significant support from her fellow comedians. According to her father, comedians like Kim Jun-ho (김준호) and Kim Joon-hyun (김준현) quietly contributed substantial amounts to help cover her medical expenses, while Park Mi-sun (박미선) donated part of the proceeds from her 30th anniversary charity dinner show to assist with Choi's hospital bills.

Following the news of her passing, Kim In-seok (김인석) expressed his grief, saying, "It breaks my heart that such a kind friend left us at such a young age. She was a genuinely good person with immense talent, and her loss is deeply felt." Kim Jun-ho also paid tribute, stating, "She was the purest and most beautiful smile in the world, never losing her laughter until the end. I hope many remember her smile and warm heart. Seo-in, may you be happy and free from pain in heaven."
